Bypolls to Rajya Sabha Seats Held by Jaitley, Jethmalani on 16 Oct

The two seats fell vacant after the death of the two Union Ministers.

Bypolls to the two Rajya Sabha seats which fell vacant following deaths of former Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Ram Jethmalani will be held on 16 October, the Election Commission announced on Thursday, 26 September.

The notification for the by-election will be issued on 27 September (Friday), with the nominations set to begin the same day.

While Jaitley (BJP) represented Uttar Pradesh, Jethmalani (RJD) represented Bihar in the Upper House.

The Rajya Sabha term of Jaitley, who passed away on 24 August, was to end on 2 April, 2024.

Jathmalani's term was to end on 7 July 2022. He died on 9 September.

The counting of votes will be taken up on 16 October at 5 pm.
