Policeman Dies in Militant Attack on Police Post in J&K’s Budgam
The policeman has been identified as Kultair Singh.
A guard was injured on Sunday after suspected militants fired in Budgam’s Charari Shareef in central Kashmir.
“The militants fired upon sentry post guarding the Ziyarat Sharief this afternoon,” local news agency GNS quoted SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh as having said.
The policeman was manning the post during the attack and was taken to hospital for treatment, GNS further quoted Singh as saying. However, ANI later said that the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries.
The policeman has been identified as Kultair Singh by the Greater Kashmir.
Further, GNS quoted official sources saying that militants decamped with the injured officer’s service rifle.
Government forces have sealed the entire area in an attempt to nab the militants, the Greater Kashmir further reported.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid confirmed the news of Singh’s death.
A wreath-laying ceremony for SGCt Kultar Singh was performed later in Srinagar.
