On Saturday, a 28-year-old, 1st-year student of JNU pursuing her PhD was allegedly raped by Anmol Ratan, a leading activist of the All India Students Association (AISA).

Ratan allegedly took the girl to his room on the pretext of giving her a copy of a film she wanted to watch.

Ratan took the girl to his hostel room, where he offered her drinks, after which he raped her. The girl said that she was not allowed to leave his room and he threatened her with dire consequences if she were to go and complain about the incident.

A police case has been filed and a statement by AISA said that Ratan has been expelled from the primary membership of the organisation.

AISA will be unflinching for the principles of gender justice even if it involves a leading member of the organisation. We stand by the complainant and will extend all possible support in her fight for justice.
