Pakistan Violates Ceasefire

The Pakistan Rangers again started unprovoked firing and shelling along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, 20 May night, hours after "pleading" with the BSF to stop firing, after being pounded with heavy artillery that left a trooper dead across the border.

Small-arms firing from the Pakistani side started around 10:30 PM at Narayanpur in the Ramgarh sector and was followed by mortar firing, aimed at the forward posts of the BSF and villages along the border, an officer of the border-guarding force told PTI.

Prime Minister Modi in Russia

Days after he held crucial talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Russia on 21 May for an informal summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to ANI the sidelines of the summit, Indian Envoy to Russia Pankaj Saran said the Modi-Putin meet on Monday in Russia’s Sochi city will be different from past, adding that the visit comes “very early, very soon” in Putin’s fourth term.

Petrol Price Skyrocket in Delhi

The price of petrol in Delhi touched a record high of Rs 76.24 per litre under the dynamic pricing regime, beating the previous high of Rs 76.06 as on September 14, 2013.

Sunday's hike of 33 paise over the previous day was the highest since dynamic pricing resumed after the suspension, coinciding with the Karnataka elections.

'Nipah' Virus Scare

The death of three people of a family in Kozhikode in the past two weeks, reportedly due to 'Nipah' virus, has put the Kerala state health department on high alert.

State Health Minister KK Shylaja on Sunday, 20 May, said the nature of the virus was yet to be ascertained.

"The kind of virus that caused the disease has not been ascertained. Blood and other samples of the deceased have been sent to the National Virology Institute, Pune. The results will be made available in a few days," she told reporters in Kozhikode after chairing a meet of top health department officials.

Fire Breaks Out in AP Express

A massive fire engulfed four coaches of the Andhra Pradesh Superfast Express near Birlanagar in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. All the passengers are safe, ANI reported.

According to a Railway Ministry official, the fire was detected in the B-6 coach around 11.50 a.m. The fire then spread to the B-7 coach, Ved Prakash, a Railway Ministry spokesperson, told IANS.

Following the fire, the guard stopped the train and shifted the passengers of the B-6 and B-7 coaches to other coaches. The train then reached Gwalior, he said.

India Test-fires BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

India has successfully test-fired BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from test range along Odisha coast, say Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials.

The missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher stationed at Launch pad 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here at 10.40 am, officials said.

The trial was conducted to validate its "life extension" technologies developed for the first time in India by DRDO and team BraHmos, said an official of the ITR.

INSV Tarini: All-Women Crew Completes Circumnavigating the Globe

The Indian Navy’s all women six-member crew aboard the Indian Naval Shipping Vessel (INSV) Tarini, was flagged in by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Panaji, Goa, after it completed the historic mission of circumnavigating the globe.

The team, headed by Lt Commander Vartika Joshi, includes five other officers – Pratibha Jamwal, Aishwarya Boddapati, Patarapalli Swathi, Vijaya Devi and Payal Gupta.

The voyage began on 10 September 2017, and is the first-ever circumnavigation of the globe by an all women Indian crew.

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale is reported to have hit Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur valley at 4.21 pm today.

10 Killed, 47 Injured as Bus Rams into Truck in MP

The private bus was headed to Ahmedabad in Gujarat from Banda in Uttar Pradesh when it hit the truck's rear side near Ruthiyai town around 4.30 am, Guna police station in-charge Vivek Asthana told PTI.

Seven persons, including the bus driver, died on the spot while three others succumbed in the district hospital.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dinesh Shukla said the district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 15,000 to the kin of the deceased and Rs 7,500 to those injured.
