Ops Conducted During UPA Rule Not Surgical Strikes, Says Then DGMO

The ex-DGMO said the ops carried out during UPA rule were local ones executed without much planning and thought.

Responding to the Congress’ claim that surgical strikes were carried out thrice during UPA rule, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) between 2012 and 2014, Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia, said that the operations can’t be compared.

Talking to NDTV, he said that surgical strikes have to be placed in the right context and the cross-border operations conducted during the UPA regime couldn’t even be deemed as surgical strikes as they were local operations carried out without much planning and thought.

The DGMO also said that the army, ensuring moral ascendancy over the Pakistani army which has been violating the ceasefire, has properly planned the recent surgical strikes and executed them extremely well.

Those were different times, different operations, planned and executed at different levels altogether.

He even said that no one should question the army and recent remarks on the issue have hurt him deeply as a soldier.
