Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday slammed the Congress for calling demonetisation the "biggest scam", and ridiculed it for not taking any steps against corruption in its decade-long rule till 2014.

"There were two striking features of the two Congress regimes. No steps against corruption or black money; and corruption, scams peaked during UPA regime.

"It is not surprising that Congress is uncomfortable with NDA campaign against black money," Jaitley told media persons.

Jaitley also urged the opposition parties to join the campaign against black money, and assured them of a debate on the issue in Parliament.

"I urge my opposition friends, we are ready to debate this issue in Parliament. Please rise above slogans and join this campaign," he said.

Earlier, Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said that demonetisation was "the biggest scam of the year" and demanded an investigation into how some people were managing to get bundles of new Rs 2,000 notes while the masses struggled to withdraw even one Rs 2,000 note. (Inputs: IANS)
