33% CCTV Cameras are Non-Functional: Delhi Police to HC
The affidavit also provided area-wise status of functional and non-functional CCTVs across Delhi
The Delhi Police have informed the Delhi High Court that out of 4,388 CCTV cameras installed across the city, 1,457 are non-functional, The Indian Express reported on 11 October.
In its affidavit submitted to a bench comprising Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice VK Rao, the police pointed out that the CCTVs mainly cover “entry and exit points of a particular market/border area for security purposes, instead of covering road accidents”.
It added that out of 78 CCTVs around the Supreme Court alone, 63 are functional and 15 are non-functional.
The affidavit also provided area-wise status of functional and non-functional CCTVs across Delhi including India Gate area, VIP route at Delhi Cantonment, Delhi High Court complex etc.
The affidavit came after the court issued a direction while hearing a PIL initiated by it, after receiving a letter from an AIIMS physiotherapist, which claimed that on the night of 28 June some miscreants in a speeding vehicle came towards his car and attacked him before fleeing.
