A day after his 68th birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth over Rs 550 crore in his Lok Sabha constituency on 18 September, as he gave a detailed account of work done as an MP from this holy city, telling its people they are his "master" and "high command."
Wrapping up his two-day visit to Varanasi, Modi said the work done in the city is clearly visible, noting its landscape has changed for good in the last four years while it was at the mercy of God under previous governments.

In Varanasi, the prime minister will visit Narur village, where he will interact with children of a primary school, aided by non-profit organisation "Room to Read".
Later, he will interact with students of Kashi Vidyapeeth and children assisted by them on the premises of Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW).
On 18 September, Modi will inaugurate or lay the foundation stones of various development projects, cumulatively worth more than Rs 500 crore, according to a statement by the prime minister's office (PMO). The event will be held at the amphitheatre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Among the projects to be inaugurated by Modi are Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for Puraani Kashi and an Atal Incubation Centre at BHU.
Among the projects for which the foundation stones will be laid is the Regional Ophthalmology Centre at BHU. The prime minister will also address a gathering, the statement said.
The Opposition Congress also extended their best wishes to PM Modi on his 68th birthday.
President of India Ram Nath Kovind also wished PM Modi and wished him a “long life and many years of dedicated service to the people of the country.”

Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday unveiled a huge ladoo weighing 568 kg at an event organised in New delhi to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 68th birthday.
The ladoo was cut by Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International social service organization, which has been celebrating September 17 as "Swachhta Diwas" since 2015.

Taking a jibe at previous governments, he said Varanasi had been left to the mercy of Lord Shiva under past regimes.
"Projects worth Rs 550 crore have either been dedicated to the public or foundation stones have been laid today. This development work not only covers Varanasi but adjoining areas as well," he said.
