Huge Fire Destroys Mumbai’s Oshiwara Furniture Market

15 fire engines & 10 tankers were mobilised to tackle the category four blaze in the furniture market.

A massive fire broke out in Mumbai’s Gulshan Nagar furniture market in Oshiwara on Friday.

The blaze began at the market, situated on Relief Road in Jogeshwari, fire brigade sources said.

According to the officials of Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services, at least 25 have sustained minor injuries in the fire. Some have sustained minor cuts and a few received head injuries during evacuation.

Six ambulances are providing first aid to those affected by the fire.

Fire tenders are on the job and more have been called for to control the fire. Police officers and policemen are already on the spot.

500 students from the HMW school and junior college, located close to the spot were evacuated. The students had their FYBcom examinations on Friday, which had to be postponed.

The fire brigade officials said that they received a call at around 1pm and fire engines rushed to the affected spot.

According to the officials, two LPG cylinder explosions took place in the furniture market of Jogeshwari, which started the fire. Several huts in the surrounding area have been destroyed.
