1. Devendra Fadnavis Announces High-Level Probe Into Wall Collapse Incident
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis (CM) on Tuesday announced a high-level probe into the wall collapse incident at Kurar, where 22 people were killed. The CM said strict action would be taken against officials responsible for not only the wall collapse, but also for other such accidents and the delayed cleaning of stormwater drains in the city.
Fadnavis was replying to a debate on the monsoon situation in Mumbai and other parts of the state after the Opposition raised the issue in both houses of the state legislature. Opposition members on Tuesday slammed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for alleged irregularities in the nullah-cleaning work and delay in construction of pumping stations.

2. Ashok Chavan Steps Down as Maharashtra Congress Chief; Thorat Could Be His Successor
Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan has stepped down from his post and the state unit of the party is likely to get a new head in the next few days. Senior party leader Balasaheb Thorat is the frontrunner for the post.
Chavan recently submitted his resignation to party president Rahul Gandhi, following the debacle of the party in the latest Lok Sabha elections.

Misleading information on display screens, absent ground staff and frustrated travellers — the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) was a scene of utter chaos on Tuesday morning after more than 100 flights were affected following unprecedented overnight rains that left the city crippled.According to Mumbai International Airport Limited, 52 flights were cancelled on Tuesday, 54 flights were diverted to nearby destinations while several more were delayed, leaving the passengers stranded for hours.

4. Officials Worked Round-The-Clock to PUMP out Over 13,000 mn Litres of Rainwater: BMC
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said civic officials were working 24 hours and had pumped out 13,694 million litres of water at six pumping stations, which is close to the combined capacity of Tulsi and Vihar lakes at 14,309 million litres.
According to the civic body, after the rains started at 12.49 am on Tuesday, the seven zonal deputy municipal commissioners and 24 ward officers were asked to be present in their areas to monitor the situation and take necessary action. “Besides, an alert was sent to all the fire stations and flood response teams in their areas,” a civic official said.

5. Expect Heavy Rains Tomorrow: Met Dept
After receiving heavy rainfall for five days since Friday, the city can expect some respite today, when lighter rains are expected, the meteorological department has said. According to the department, another spell of heavy rains is expected in Mumbai on July 4, but the impact will be less compared to Monday.
