1. 7,397 Polling Stations To Cater To 72.63 Lakh Voters In Mumbai
Nearly 1.05 lakh first-time voters will feature in the electoral rolls across the 26 constituencies that make up the suburban district of Mumbai. The suburban district will have 7,397 polling stations to cater to its 72.63 lakh registered voters on Monday, when the State goes to polls.
Milind Borikar, district collector, Mumbai (suburban), said, “This time, barring around 400 polling stations, all others will be on the ground floor. For this purpose, we will be erecting nearly 2,000 tents on the grounds of various schools. The centres that are on the first or second floors will be in buildings with lifts,”

2. 112 Sensitive Booths In Thane Rural
Thane rural police station has declared 112 polling booths as sensitive and 110 booths as critical for Assembly polls. Around nine Assembly constituencies, including Shahpur, Murbad and Palghar district, come under the Thane rural police jurisdiction.
An officer from Thane rural police department said, “There are 1,510 polling booths for nine Assembly constituencies. We have identified 112 booths as sensitive and 110 as critical ones. We have appointed 27 flying squads and 13 static squads for the booths. The two squads have seized ₹40 lakh in the one-month drive.”

3. Bombay HC Confirms Death Sentence To Trio Who Raped, Killed Teen
The Bombay high court (HC) on Thursday confirmed death penalty for three men from Ahmednagar district who had raped a 16-year-old girl multiple times and tortured her to death in 2014. In view of the brutalities committed by Santosh Lonkar, 38; Mangesh Lonkar, 32; and Dattatray Shinde, 29; the court said that the convicts cannot be allowed to return to society.
The division bench of TV Nalawade and justice KK Sonawane said that the case had met all the requirements to be considered the rarest of a rare case.

4. Iqbal Mirchi Case: DHFL Comes Under ED Scanner
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday questioned Dheeraj Wadhawan, a non-executive director with Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL), in connection with its investigation into the alleged money laundering rackets by gangster Iqbal Memon alias Iqbal Mirchi. Several premises of DHFL were searched on Saturday.
The ED has been probing alleged routing of money by Sunblink Real Estate Pvt. Ltd. for Mirchi, and has arrested two accused, identified as British national Haroun Yusuf and Mumbai native Ranjeet Bindra.

5. Rain Likely In City, Adjoining Areas Today
The city and its adjoining areas, including Thane and Navi Mumbai, may experience another bout of rain on Monday when polls are scheduled across the state. According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai may get light to moderate rain on Monday. A low pressure area over Lakshadweep in the east-central Arabian Sea is causing widespread rain over Maharashtra. The rainfall is likely to go on till October 23.
The significant rain over the weekend brought down the maximum temperature in the city to 26.7 degrees Celsius, the lowest maximum temperature recorded in October since 2016, which is seven degrees below normal.
