1. Mumbai Hospital Fire: Toll Rises to 9, Two Arrested
The toll in the ESIC Hospital fire climbed to nine after 65-year-old Sheela Morwekar succumbed to multiple complications, including sepsis and cardiac problems, on Wednesday, 19 December, morning while undergoing treatment at Seven Hills Hospital. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police arrested a site supervisor and his assistant on Wednesday.
Based on the fire brigade’s preliminary findings that sparks from a welding machine caused the fire, the police filed a case against Supreme Constructions, the firm contracted to carry out repair works at the ESIC Hospital.

2. Fire Breaks Out in Trident
A fire broke out at a high-end fashion store on the ground floor of Hotel Trident in Mumbai’s Marine Drive on Wednesday, 19 December, night. The fire was reported around 11.02 pm and has been doused fire officials said. No injuries have been reported.

3. Govt to Bombay HC: Can’t Make Maratha Quota Report Public
The state government on Wednesday, 19 December, told the Bombay High Court it had apprehensions about making the State Backward Class Commission report public as some portions on the history of the Maratha community might create “social unrest” and “open healed wounds”.

4. PWD Plans ‘Low-Key Bhoomipujan’ at Shivaji Memorial Site Today
Nearly two months after a speedboat carrying at least 25 people capsized in the Arabian Sea off the Mumbai coast while on way to the proposed site of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial, the state Public Works Department (PWD) will hold a low-key event at the site on Thursday, 20 December.

5. Parsi Factions' Fight Hits Fire Temple Cause

6. Woman Thrashes Policeman
Normally, common citizens are always on model behaviour when they have to visit a police station for some work or the other. But a 42-year-old woman, who claims to be a model, gave the phrase a whole different meaning when she assaulted the senior inspector of Amboli police station and pinned him down, while his fellow male personnel watched horror-struck. She even allegedly clawed at women constables who tried to intervene, injuring a couple of them

7. Thak Thak Gang Loots Vasai Businessman Of Rs 80,000
Giving false information about a car catching fire, the Thak- Thak Gang looted a businessman of his valuables and cash from his Mercedes vehicle in Vasai on Monday, 17 December, morning. The notorious gang received the nickname 'Thak-Thak' as members would knock on window-panes of cars and then decamp with the goods valuables even before the driver or owner realizes that he or she has been robbed.
