On Friday, at approximately 10:30 pm, Narendra Modi’s ardent supporters will have a reason to rejoice as. The Prime Minister will become the most followed leader of state, after Barack Obama leaves the White House.

Modi’s followers on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+ and Linkedin have made him the most followed head of state.

It’s only befitting that he gets that title, given the leader’s penchant for interacting with the entire country and foreign leaders through his various social media platforms.

The policies of the Modi cabinet have also focused on the digital space, with the internet being the backbone of demonetisation and a cashless economy.

Selfies and the success of social media campaigns like #SelfieWithDaughter, #MyCleanIndia have helped him garner the following he has amassed.
