Three policemen were injured after a mob allegedly gathered outside a police station in Bihar’s Muzzafarpur district on Saturday, 7 September, and attacked a team of officers after holding them hostage. The attack was prompted by the recovery of the bodies of two missing youths from a ditch in Aurai area, police said.
The injured policemen were admitted to a primary health centre in Aurai, sources said.
The two were allegedly kidnapped on Friday when they were travelling on a motorbike but the villagers insist they were murdered, police sources said.
The mob gathered outside the police station in Muzaffarpur, held the policemen hostage and subsequently thrashed them with bamboo sticks. According to NDTV, the mob said that the boys were beaten to death by unidentified men, while the police said that it was a case of drowning, reported .
However, the reason behind the alleged killing is not yet confirmed.
There have been a number of mob attacks on individuals in the recent past. Last week, a video of a Kashmiri youth being thrashed in Rajasthan's Alwar district went viral. The man was tied to a pillar, forced to wear women's clothing and beaten up by a mob.
Incidents of people facing the wrath of mob over child-lifting rumours are also increasing. Two days ago, a man thrashed in Jharkhand for allegedly attempting to kidnap his own child.
