Six militants were gunned down in an early morning encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Friday, 23 November, reported NDTV.
The six militants neutralised in the encounter have been identified as Azad Malik, Unais Shafi, Shahid Bashir, Basit Ishtiyaq, Aqib Najar and Firdous Najar, police officials told ANI.
Terrorist Azad Malik was wanted in journalist Shujaat Bukhari's murder too, reported ANI.
The encounter erupted between security forces and militants in Sekipora area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district on the predawn of Friday.
Arms and ammunition were also discovered from the site of encounter.
Confirming the encounter, a police official said, "In one of the most successful operations this year, six Lashkar militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Wagahama area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district.”
The security forces had launched an operation in the foothills of Wagahama in Suktipora on Thursday night following information about presence of militants at a hideout there.
According to the police officials, a joint operation was launched after getting an intelligence input.
According to the sources, 6 LeT militants are believed to be dead in the pre-dawn encounter at Sekipora near Sangham in Bijbehara-Tral belt of South Kashmir. While officials are sure about 4 fatal casualties, they maintain that the bodies have not been recovered so far, sources confirmed.
