MHADA: Registration Ends, Lottery to Be Declared on 10 November

The excitement for the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) flats among Mumbaikars has come down substantially this year. Compared to 2016, fewer than 50 percent have applied for the MHADA flats this year.

While 2 lakh people had filed their application for 972 flats in MHADA in 2016, this year, only 75,240 people have registered for the 819 flats by the last date of registration.

No More Craze For MHADA Flats?

To have a cheap flat of their own is every Mumbaikar's dream, and because MHADA flats are cheaper then others, lakhs of Mumbai residents wait for the once-a-year lottery.

People try their luck to buy a flat that matches their budget. But this year, customers are not showing any interest in the MHADA housing because this year the prices are similar to that of the market.

For example, a flat having a carpet area of 300 square feet in MHADA costs Rs 1.2 crore. Private builders are selling flats for the same price. The real estate in Mumbai has taken a beating after demonetsation.

However, MHADA hiked their prices and this could be a major reason for customers staying away this time.

10 November: Lottery Day

The MHADA announced that the lottery for 819 flats would be declared on 10 November. This comprises of 338 flats for high income group, 281 flats for middle income group, 192 flats for lower income group, and eight for the lowest income group.

Locations

*8 flats for lowest income group are located in Prateeksha Nagar, Mankhurd, Chandivali, and Borivali.

*192 flats for lower income group are located in Kannamwar Nagar (Vikroli), Charkop (Kandivali), Siddhartha Nagar (Goregaon), Chandivali, Mankhurd, and Malwani (Malad).

*281 flats for middle income group are located in Prateeksha Nagar Sion, Siddhartha Nagar, Unnat Nagar, Charkop, and Gaykwad Nagar.

*338 flats for high income group are located in Lower Parel, Tunga (Powai), Charkop( Kandivali), and Shimpoli (Kandivali).
