The Pakistani authorities have taken Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar and his brother Abdul Rauf Asghar in preventive custody in connection with the investigation of the Pathankot attack.
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj are meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to brief him about the developments in the investigation.
Spokesperson of MEA, Vikas Swarup, has said that the government has no official confirmation regarding Azhar’s custody.

The prime time television news had a varied spectrum of conclusions to draw from it.
The panelists on Arnab Goswami’s Newshour included three military representatives from the Pakistani military and a fourth from India. However, Arnab still managed to call Pakistan a terrorist state, threatening Pakistan with Indian might.

Pakistan had banned JeM and its daughter organisations (HuL and JuI) in 2002 and 2004 respectively. However, the offices of the JeM were functional until Wednesday evening when Azhar was taken into protective custody.
