Maruti Factory Violence Case: 13 People Given Life Sentence

In July 2012, workers allegedly set a factory floor on fire, killing one person.

• Thirteen people have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Haryana court in the Maruti factory violence case on Saturday.
• Four other accused have been handed a five-year jail term while 14 others accused of rioting have been fined.
• On 18 July 2012, workers allegedly had a heated exchange with their supervisor over the hiring of low-paid temporary employees. The argument soon turned violent. Awanish Kumar Dev, general manager (HR), lost his life when the protesting workers allegedly set a factory floor on fire. They were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, arson and rioting.
