The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 814 kgs of marijuana in Hyderabad on Monday, according to a report by The Times of India. The marijuana was brought by inter-state peddlers from Andhra-Odisha border for New Year celebrations in Mumbai and Hyderabad, it added.
The report quoted a DRI official as saying:
Following the raid of the marijuana worth over Rs 80 lakh, the contraband was shifted to Shamshabad police station. The investigation revealed that the vehicles used for the transportation of the consignment had fake registration numbers.
The raid was made possible following an alert that the authorities had received on Friday.
As soon as the DRI team was within the premises of the farmhouse where the raid was conducted, five people who were allegedly transferring the contraband in a lorry and a Tavera, jumped out of the vehicles and scaled the compound wall to escape.
While both vehicles have been seized, the police is still on the look-out for the five absconding suspects.
