At Least 5 Dead, 30 Injured After Bus Falls Into Pond in Assam

At least five people were killed and 30 injured after an Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus lost control and fell in a pond in Assam's Nalbari district, The Times of India reported quoting police officials.

The incident took place around 3:30 pm on Saturday, 20 October, after driver of the ASTC bus lost control in Adabari area of Nalbari district. According to the information provided by the police to The Times of India, there may be more people trapped inside the bus.

Speaking to the national daily, Nalbari SP Shiladitya Chetia said:

“As of now five persons have died. The injured are being treated at nearby hospitals. Rescue operations are on. We are also trying to retrieve the bus.”  

The bus that carried 50 passengers was on its way to Barpeta from Guwahati via Mukalmua.
