Mamata Banerjee’s Nephew Injured in Accident, CID Begins Inquiry

Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and party member Abhishek Banerjee met with an accident on Tuesday evening.

The Parliamentarian was rushed to the hospital after his car crashed near Durgapur Expressway in Hooghly district. Following the accident, two special teams from CID and Kolkata Police initiated an inquiry into the cause of the accident, a senior CID officer said.

The 29-year-old MP from Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, reportedly suffered head injuries and was taken to the Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata. Sources claim that he is stable but under observation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.

A police official from the control room said, “The accident occurred at Ratanpur. He is being shifted to a nursing home in Kolkata.”

Abhishek Banerjee was injured when the vehicle he was travelling in met with an accident on Durgapur Expressway near Singur. He has been rushed to a hospital in Kolkata. I am yet to receive details about the accident or any report in this regard from the Superintendent of Police, Hooghly, Praveen Tripathy.

Abhishek' car hit the pilot car which had collided with a crane; his car reportedly vaulted thrice, said a source.

Mamata Banerjee has reportedly asked the police to probe if the driver was drugged while media reports claim that she suspects the driver had fallen asleep.

While senior ministers from the party have rushed to the medical facility, Banerjee herself is expected to visit him.
