The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, on 21 April, dismissed the case filed by an elderly couple from Melur who claimed that actor Dhanush was their son.

The couple, R Kathiresan (65) and K Meenakshi (53), had appealed for a DNA test, alleging that the actor was their eldest son, Kalaichelvan. They claimed he was born to them in 1985 at the Rajaji Hospital in Madurai and had run away when he was a student of Class 11.

The judge quashed the couple’s appeal on the grounds of insufficient evidence. The couple sent a legal notice to actor Dhanush on 4 October 2016, demanding that he provide them maintenance of Rs 65,000 per month. In November, they filed a case in the Melur court. The case was dismissed.

The couple claimed they were in debt and were struggling with health problems.

In order to prove their claim, the couple alleged that Dhanush had a few marks on his body. The court appointed doctors who examined Dhanush last month and stated that the couple were wrong about the actor’s birthmarks.

Dr MR Vairamuthu Raja, Dean of the Madurai Medical College (MMC), and Dr Meenakshi Sundaram, Vice Principal of MMC, stated in the report that contrary to the couple’s claims, Dhanush did not have a mole over the left collar bone or a scar on the left elbow.
