Old Yamuna Bridge Temporarily Closed

The old Yamuna bridge, 'Loha Pul', has been temporary closed for rail traffic as water level reached 205.53 marks, the Indian Railways said in a statement. A total of 27 passenger trains have been cancelled, while seven other trains have been diverted due to the closure.

Sensex, Nifty Extend Record-Breaking Run Led By RIL, ICICI Bank

Indian equity benchmarks extended record breaking run for a sixth day in a row led by ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries after they reported June quarter earnings after market hours on Friday, 27 July. The S&P BSE Sensex rose as much as 0.43 percent or 160 points to 37,496.80 and the NSE Nifty 50 index climbed as much as 0.27 percent or 31 points to 11,309.35.

Mehul Choksi's Passport Revoked in February 2018

Sources have told The Quint that the valid passport of Mehul Choksi was revoked in February 2018.

As soon as MEA received information of the presence of Mehul Choksi in Antigua, the High Commission in Georgetown alerted the A&B Government, in writing and verbally, asking him to confirm his presence in their territory and detain him and prevent his movement by land, air or sea, PTI reports.

“Our High Commissioner is meeting the relevant authorities in the A&B government on Monday, 30 June. We continue to liaise with relevant government of India agencies and the government of Antigua & Barbuda to follow up on this matter,” PTI quoted a source as saying.

UPA-1 telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran must face trial in the illegal telephone exchange case, the Supreme Court said, upholding the Madras High Court decision setting aside a CBI court order discharging him in the case.

The Madras HC, on 25 July, ordered the framing of charges against Dayanidhi, brother Kalanithi, and the others within 12 weeks.

Mallya 'Devastated' After Losing Control of Force India Formula One team

Vijay Mallya is 'devastated' to have lost control of the Force India Formula One team but the embattled tycoon should still have a say in what happens next, according to his right-hand man Bob Fernley, Reuters reported.

The Briton, who was deputy team principal until a court-appointed administrator took charge last Friday, told Reuters that Mallya would act in the best interests of a team he acquired in 2007.

"I don't know. I think there's more to come yet," he said in an interview at Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix when asked whether Mallya's Formula One adventure had reached the end of the road.

Female Gender Mutilation Violates Right to Privacy, Says SC

The Centre on Monday, 30 July, supported a petition seeking a ban on the practice of Female Gender Mutilation (FGM) among the members of the Dawoodi Bohra community, a sub-sect of the Shia denomination.

The Supreme Court, while hearing the petition, said that women don't live their lives just for marriage and husband, CNN-News18 reported.

The apex court also said that the practice violated the right to privacy of women, adding that a woman didn't have an obligation only towards her husband and marriage. “A woman may have several other obligations too.”

Panchkula Violence: Six Ram Rahim Followers Acquitted for Lack of Evidence

Six followers of the Dera Sachcha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, were acquitted today in the Panchkula violence case due to the lack of evidence. The followers -- Gyaniram, Sanga Singh, Hoshiyar Singh, Ravi, Tarsem and Ram Kishan -- were accused of creating riots after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape, reported ANI.

Code Orange Issued at Idukki Dam in Kerala
