Militants Hurl Grenades at Army and Police Camp in Kashmir

Militants on Tuesday hurled grenades at the army and police camp at Hajan in Bandipora district of North Kashmir. The camp came under attack from 4-6 militants, who fired eight rounds of an under-barrel grenade launcher, reported ANI.

Swearing-In of Karnataka Ministers at 2:12 pm on Wednesday

The oath-taking ceremony of the Karnataka ministers is scheduled to take place at 2:12 pm on Wednesday, 6 June, at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.

While Congress has been allocated 22 portfolios in the Karnataka Cabinet, 12 portfolios have gone to its coalition partner JD(S). Earlier, only HD Kumaraswamy and G Parameshwara were sworn-in as chief minister and deputy chief minister respectively.

At Least 11 Dead, 9 Injured in Vehicle Explosion in China's Liaoning Province

At least eleven people died and nine were injured after a vehicle carrying explosives exploded near a mine-pit in Benxi city in northeast China’s Liaoning province. While rescue operations are underway, 25 people are still believed to be trapped, the Chinese media reported.

Empty Ammunition Found at Pokhran Field: Army

Empty ammunition of various kinds were found at the Pokhran field in Rajasthan, which appear to be blinds recovered from the impact area of the Range, the army said on Tuesday, reported ANI.

None of these are live ammunition. All explosive from the shells and rounds have been taken out for further disposal through scrap route… Investigation by local authorities is underway (to determine) if these empty ammunition have been handled in an authorised manner by the scrap dealer. Such investigations are undertaken routinely to ensure due security and safety.

A special court has taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Delhi police against MP Shashi Tharoor for abetment to suicide and committing cruelty on his wife, Sunanda Pushkar.

The court has summoned Tharoor on 7 July.

NIA makes Another Arrest in Nagrota Army Camp Attack Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one person today in connection with 2016 Nagrota army camp attack (J&K), taking the number of arrests made in the case to three, reported ANI.

On 29 November 2016, fidayeen militants stormed the Nagrota Army base in which seven Indian soldiers and three militants were killed. There was a hostage crisis after the militants entered the buildings where the officers lived.

Tamil Nadu Bans Plastic

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced a complete plastic ban in the state, with effect from 1 January, 2019, on Tuesday, 5 June.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami's announcement in the state assembly coincided with International Environment Day.

However, he said, milk and oil pouches, along with other basic need items will be exempted from the ban.

Late chief minister J Jayalalithaa had earlier constituted an expert panel on the issue that had suggested banning plastic products, including bags, plates and cups, and recommended that traditional items such as plantain leaves and plates made of palm leaves be used, Palaniswami said.

Curfew Remains Imposed in Shillong

Curfew remains imposed in Shillong in the wake of clashes between two groups following escalation of an argument between a woman & a bus conductor.

The authorities on Monday, 4 June extended curfew in the Meghalaya capital as violence continued in tension-hit areas the previous night with mobs indulging in stone-pelting on security forces for the last four days.

The clashes erupted after a skirmish between some women and a driver of Shillong Public Transport Service bus at Them Meteor, which led to an assault of three persons. The violence continued even after the parties involved in the skirmish reached a compromise.

Senior IAF Pilot Dies in an Aircraft Crash in Gujarat’s Kutch District

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar aircraft has crashed at Mundra in Gujarat’s Kutch district, reported ANI.

According to media reports, senior IAF pilot Sanjay Chauhan has lost his life in the crash. However, the cause of the crash is not yet known.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of accident. The IAF Jaguar was on a routine training mission and had taken off from Jamnagar in Gujarat.

10 People Killed in Landslide in Mizoram's Lunglei Town

10 people, including six women, were killed and one person was injured when a building was swept away by landslide triggered by heavy rain in Lunglawn area of south Mizoram's Lunglei town, police said on Tuesday, 6 June.

According to PTI, The landslide hit the two-storied semi-pucca building last night killing seven members of a family living in the ground floor and three people belonging to another family residing in the first floor, they said.

Four persons were rescued from the building, police said, adding that one of them suffered injuries.

Aircel-Maxis Case: Relief for P Chidambaram From Arrest Till 10 July

A Delhi Court has extended protection granted to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram from arrest till 10 July in Aircel Maxis money laundering case, reported PTI.

Enforcement Directorate has sought time for filing a detailed reply in the case.

The court fixed the matter for further hearing on 10 July, the same date on which hearing against Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case is scheduled.

P Chidambaram is likely to meet the Enforcement Directorate at 11 am today, reported News18.

Blast Close to a Girl's School in Afghanistan

An IED blast has been reported close to a girl’s school in center of Ghanikhil district in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, 5 June, reported TOLO News.

A spokesman for provincial governor, Attaullah Khoghyani told TOLO News, “No one was hurt in the IED blast close to a girls’ school in Ghanikhil district in Nangarhar.”
