Morgan Freeman Accused of Sexual Harassment, Says “Sorry”

Academy award-winning actor, Morgan Freeman has been accused of sexual harassment by eight women.

CNN spoke to 16 people, eight of whom were victims and eight who witnessed Freeman’s inappropriate behaviour. All the people who have accused the actor said that they did not report the inappropriate behaviour because they risked losing their own jobs.

Freeman, in a statement to Sky News, said: "Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy.

BSE Sensex Trades Higher by Around 70 Points, While Nifty Trades Above 10,500

The stock market on Friday, 25 May, started on a positive note as benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 traded higher after gaining nearly 1 percent in the previous session. Equities in Asian markets were slightly weaker after US President Donald Trump called off a key summit with North Korea. The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday, tracking the gains in Asian currencies.

BSE Sensex traded higher by 65.33 points, or 0.19%, to 34,728.44, while the Nifty 50 rose 12.95 points, or 0.12%, to 10,526.80.

Pollution Control Board Orders Shut Down of 16 Brick Kilns in Ghaziabad

The Pollution Control Board has ordered the shutting down of 16 brick kilns in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad for failing to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and failing to abide by pollution standards.

Explosion in Indian Restaurant in Canada Injures 15

More than a dozen people were injured as an explosion ripped through an Indian restaurant outside Toronto late on 24 May, reports said.

Some 15 people were injured in the blast at the Bombay Bhel restaurant in Mississauga, Ontario just after 10:30 pm, the New York Times reported. There was no word on the cause but reports suggest that two unidentified men walked into the restaurant and set off a bomb.

"Reports of multiple injuries, no info on the extent," the Peel Regional Police said in a Tweet.

PM Modi Meetes Sheikh Hasina in Kolkata, to Attend Visva Bharti University Convocation

PM Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata on Friday morning. The prime minister will attend the convocation of Viswa Bharti University in Shanyi Niketan along with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, both leaders will inaugurate the Bangladesh Bhavan. PM Modi was received by West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and Union Minister Babul Supriyo.

CM Mamata Banerjee will also join the leaders at the event.

Fuel Prices Rise for the 12th Consecutive Day

As fuel prices rose for the 12th straight day, petrol on Friday, 25 May, is priced at Rs 77.83 per litre in Delhi, Rs 85.65 in Mumbai , Rs 80.47 in Kolkata, and Rs 80.80 in Chennai. Diesel has been priced at at Rs 68.75 in Delhi, Rs 73.2 in Mumbai, Rs 72.58 in Chennai and Rs 71.30 in Kolkata.

Domestic fuel prices are increasing as crude oil price in the international market is continuously rallying upwards adding to that, the rupee is weakening against the US dollar, which puts more burden on the prices.

Oppsition-Sponsored Bandh Against Tuticorin Violence in TN

The DMK-led opposition parties’ bandh in Tamil Nadu to condemn the Tuticorin violence in which 13 people lost their lives and to demand the resignation of Chief Minister K Palaniswami began in Tamil Nadu on Friday.

The protests against the Sterlite copper plant turned violent on 22 May as the police opened fire to control the crowd.

Maj Gogoi Will be Punished if Found Guilty: Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat

Reacting to the recent controversy involving Indian Army’s Major Gogoi, where he was detained by J&K police after an altercation over a local girl, Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat said the strictest action will be taken if he is found guilty:

If any officer of the army does something wring, then we take the strictest action.If Maj Gogoi is found guilty of any wrongdoing, then I’ll punish him and make an example out of him.

HD Kumaraswamy Moves Motion for Vote of Confidence

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy moved the motion of confidence on the floor of the house ahead of the floor test in the Karnataka Assembly.

In his speech, he said that he didn’t understand the logic behind the BJP claiming that people have given them the mandate. He added that he had no personal ambition to be Chief Minister of Karnataka, but it was a situation presented by the people of the state.

Samsung Ordered to Pay USD 533 Million to Apple in Patent Damages

A federal court jury on Friday ordered Samsung to pay Apple $533 million for copying iPhone design features in a patent case dating back seven years.

The award appeared to be a bit of a victory for Apple, which had argued in court that design was essential to the iPhone.

The case was sent back to the district court following a Supreme Court decision to revisit an earlier USD 400 million damage award. The jury essentially split the difference between Apple's request for USD 1 billion and Samsun's argument for USD 28 million.

Jaitley Shifted Out of ICU, Recovering After Kidney Transplant

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who underwent a successful kidney transplant at the AIIMS on 14 May, was shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is recovering.

His post-operative recovery was being closely monitored by a team of transplant surgeons, endocrinologist, nephrologist, cardiologist, pulmonologist and critical care experts among others.

SEBI Serves Notice to ICICI MD Chanda Kochhar in Videocon Loan Case

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) served a notice to ICICI Bank CEO and MD Chanda Kochhar in the Videocon loan case, involving Videocon Group and NuPower Renewables run by her husband Deepak Kochhar.

Reports alleged that Videocon chairman Venugopal Dhoot invested Rs 64 crore in NuPower Renewables, a firm owned by Deepak Kochhar after Videocon secured a loan from a consortium of banks, including ICICI Bank.
