A Red Alert has been declared for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, Orange Alert for Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts, while Yellow Alert has been declared for Palakkad, Trissur, Ernakulam and Idukki districts, for Tuesday, 23 July. A holiday has also declared for Tuesday for schools in Kannur, Kasargod and Malappuram districts.

SC Directs Cancellation of Registration of All Amrapali Group of Companies

A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, on Tuesday directed cancellation of registration of all Amrapali group of companies and directed Enforcement Directorate to conduct a detailed investigation against the group for diverting home-buyers' money.

The Supreme Court also said that the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA) registration of Amrapali is cancelled. Enforcement Directorate will register the money laundering cases against Amrapali, its Chief Managing Director, and other directors.

Naxal Killed in Encounter with Police in Chhattisgarh

A Naxal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The skirmish took place in a forest near Birabhatti village, located around 500 km from the state capital Raipur, when a District Reserve Guard team was out on a counter- insurgency exercise, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

The security personnel were advancing through the forest when Naxals started firing at them, leading to the gun battle between the two sides, he said.

The Naxals soon fled the spot and escaped into the dense forest, the official said.

ED Files Money Laundering Case Against Amrapali Group, Promoters

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a criminal case of money laundering against embattled real estate major Amrapali Group and its promoters, who allegedly failed to give possession of flats to over 42,000 home buyers in Noida and Greater Noida, officials said on Tuesday.

The central agency's zonal office in Lucknow filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) early this month after taking cognisance of at least 16 FIRs registered against the group by the Noida Police.

The ED is looking to grill the promoters of the group and find their assets which can be attached on charges of contravening the anti-money laundering law, the officials said.

Hearing in Bombay High Court on the bail application of the three accused doctors in the case has been adjourned till 25 July.

Landslides in Remote Nepal District Kills 6

Six persons, including a child, were killed when landslides triggered by heavy rains buried houses in a remote district of Nepal, a media report said on Tuesday.

According to inspector Rabindra Khadka, who is posted at Gulmi district police office, the landslides occurred on Monday night in Limgha and Thulo Lumpek areas of the district.

Two persons, identified as seven-year-old Darshan Taramu and 31-year-old Til Kumari, were killed and as many injured after their house collapsed in a mudslide in Thulo Lumpek, the Himalayan Times reported.

Journalist of News Channel That Irked Yogi Gets Bail from Allahabad HC

A journalist of a TV news channel, accused of airing defamatory content on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in a fraud and forgery case on Tuesday, his lawyer said.

Anuj Shukla, the managing editor of the Noida-based Nation Live channel, has been given the relief by Justice Ajit Singh, who heard the matter at court number 80 this morning, lawyer Nitin Gupta told PTI.

The same court and judge had on July 19 granted bail to Shukla's colleague Anshul Kaushik, who worked as a news anchor in the channel, he said.

Three Children Die in Russia Summer Camp Fire

Three children died and another was fighting for his life after a fire ripped through a summer camp in the Russian far east in the early hours of Tuesday, the regional authorities said.

The blaze tore through a private children's tent camp in the Khabarovsk region, destroying 20 tents and killing a girl on her 11th birthday.

Two other girls suffered extensive burns and later died in hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the regional authorities, Nadezhda Tomchenko.

Court Grants 2 Months to Police to Get Sanctions to Prosecute Kanhaiya, Others

A Delhi court on Tuesday granted two months to the Delhi police to secure the requisite sanctions to prosecute former JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a 2016 sedition case.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Khurana passed the order after the police sought more time on the ground that no sanction has been received from the authorities concerned.

The court also sought a status report from the deputy commissioner of police on the issue of sanction and posted the matter for further proceedings on September 18.

During a brief hearing, the police told the court that it has not received any information from the Delhi government's Home Department regarding the sanction.

Delhi to Receive Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall: Skymet

Delhi is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday which will lead to a significant decrease in temperatures and humidity levels.

It would be one of the heaviest spells of the monsoon season so far in Delhi, Mahesh Palwat of private weather forecaster Skymet Weather said.

Delhi has recorded 156.5 mm rains from July 1 to July 23, which is four per cent more than the 30-year average of 149.8 mm, officials said.
