The body of a rape accused was found hanging from a tree at a village in Shamli district, police said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with a rape case on January 17 and was released on bail on February 11, SP Vineet Jaiswal said.

He said the body was sent for postmortem and efforts were underway to ascertain the cause of the death.

Birla Meets Telecom Secy Amid AGR Issues

Amid talks of the government encashing its bank guarantee over default in payment of dues, Vodafone Idea Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla met Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash on Tuesday, 18 February as he looked for options to keep the company afloat.

After the meeting, Birla said he "cannot say anything at the moment." Vodafone Idea on Monday paid Rs 2,500 crore to the Department of Telecom (DoT) and promised to pay another Rs 1,000 crore before the end of the week.

IED Seized, Three Arrested in Manipur

Three persons have been arrested after an IED and a detonator among other materials were seized from their possession in Manipur's Imphal West district, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, Manipur police commandos had conducted checking of vehicles on the Moreh-Imphal highway on Monday and seized eight 1.5 volt batteries, which are used to make detonators, from a car and arrested the two occupants, Imphal West district Superintendent of Police K Meghachandra told reporters.

Aligarh Samajwadi Party Leader's Son Shot Dead in 'Road Rage' Case

A Samajwadi Party leader's son was shot dead during a violent clash that broke out here after a "road rage" incident involving them and a local BJP politician's son, police said on Tuesday, 18 February.

They said 20-year-old Sachin, son of a district-level SP leader Puranmal Prajapati, was killed Monday night in Palasahibabad locality in Sasni Gate area as the argument following the collision between two motorcycles led to stone-pelting and firing.

At least six people, including the deceased's younger brother and a policeman, were injured in the clash, the police said.

Woman Gunned Down in New Thai Mall Shooting
