Oman's Sultan Qaboos Passes Away at 79 Without an Hein
Oman’s Sultan Qaboos, the longest-reigning leader of the modern Arab world, has died at the age of 79, the royal court said on Saturday.
Qaboos, who has ruled since 1970 when he deposed his father in a palace coup, had been ill for some time and had been believed to be suffering from colon cancer.
He left no apparent heir. He was unmarried and had no children or brothers. It is not clear who will succeed Qaboos. According to the Omani constitution, the royal family shall, within three days of the throne falling vacant, determine the successor.
If the family does not agree on a name, the person chosen by Qaboos in a letter addressed to the royal family will be the successor.
Head of Ram Janmabhoomi Mahant Nritya Gopal Das' Security Upgraded to Z
The central government upgraded the security of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, head of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, from Y to Z category, on Friday.
The Ayodhya district administration received a communication in this regard from the Centre.
Now, the number of personnel deployed for Das’s security will be increased from 11 to 28.

Special Session of Meghalaya Assembly on 20 January
A special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held on 20 January for ratification of the Constitution 126th Amendment Bill, 2019, an official said.
The bill seeks to extend the reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies by another 10-years till 25 January, 2030.

India’s Light Combat Aircraft Makes 1st Landing on INS Vikramaditya
According to the ANI, for the first time, Naval Light Combat Aircraft today landed on aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. This is the the first time an indigenous fighter aircraft has landed on an aircraft carrier. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-developed Light Combat Aircraft landed with the help of an arrester wire.

A fast-track court in Raipur has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his minor step-daughter. The court also awarded a similar sentence to the victim's mother for abetment to rape.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on him.

Minor Girl Dies After Being Set Ablaze
A minor girl died after being set ablaze following a clash between two families in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district, police said.
The 12 year-old girl lost her life on Friday, 10 January after the two families came to blows in Sonaudi village under Dehat Kotwali police station area over suspicion of stone pelting, Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma said.

25-Year-Old Woman Constable Shoots Herself in the Head
A 25-year-old woman constable allegedly killed herself by shooting herself in the head at a police station on Saturday, an official said.
Shobha Chowdhary was on duty at Khairabad Police Station when she shot herself using the service pistol, said Sitapur Additional Superintendent of Police MP Singh.
