Two Minors Killed in Chhath Puja in Aurangabad

Two minors were killed in a stampede during the Chhath puja celebrations in Suryanagari Dev area in Aurangabad on Saturday evening. The deceased include a six-year-old boy from Patna’s Bihta and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Sahar in Bhojpur were the deceased. A few other devotees also sustained injuries. Officers have assured ex-gratia to the kin.

One Dead, 13 Injured as Bus Hits Container Truck in Chennai

A state transport bus rammed into a container truck in Villivakkam in Chennai during the early hours of Saturday, killing the bus conductor and injuring 13, including the driver. According to The Hindu, the police suspect that the bus driver could have dozed off at the wheel, causing the accident.

At the launch of book anchor Mrinal Talukdar’s book 'Post Colonial Assam', CJI Ranjan Gogoi said that irresponsible reporting by a few media outlets only worsened the situation. There was an urgent need to ascertain with some degree of certainty the number of illegal migrants, which is what the current exercise of NRC had attempted, nothing more nothing less.

Trichy Man Arrested for Killing Mother, Grievously Injuring Father

The Trichy police on Saturday, 2 November arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering his mother and grievously injuring his father. The accused, identified as Prakash of Ganesapuram attacked his mother Pappathi (49) and his father Arumugam (53) with a weightlifting rod over an argument in the early hours of Saturday. He then surrendered before the Golden Rock Police at around 3.00 am on Saturday.

While Pappathi died on the way to the hospital, Prakash’s father is currently undergoing treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.

Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Mandhandled by Police, Centre Seeks Response

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Saturday sought an explanation from Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy, over the police allegedly manhandling Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay on Friday evening.

There was a heated argument between BJP MP Bandi Sanjay and police officials on Friday during a protest supporting the ongoing strike of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees. More than 48,000 TSRTC employees are on strike since October 5 to press for their demands including a merger of the corporation with the government.

Visuals of the incident show Sanjay being pushed around in a scuffle, even as a police officer is seen seemingly is holding on to his shirt.

Journalist Attacked in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri

A journalist working with a Hindi daily was shot and seriously injured by two unidentified assailants in Devuapar village of the district, police said on Sunday, 3 November.

164 Young Soldiers Join Ladakh Scouts Regiment

As many as 164 recruits, hailing from different parts of Ladakh, were on Saturday inducted into the Army after completing a rigorous training programme, a defence spokesman said.

An attestation parade for the induction of the young soldiers into the Ladakh Scouts regiment was held at Regimental Centre in Leh, he said.

The spokesman said the ceremony conducted in consonance with the highest traditions of the Indian Army was reviewed by General Officer Commanding, Trishul Division, Major General Sanjiv Rai.

Satya Pal Malik Takes Oath as GOA Governor Panaji

Satya Pal Malik was on Sunday sworn in as the Governor of Goa. Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Justice Pradeep Nandrajog administered the oath of office to Malik at Raj Bhavan. Malik had earlier served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, which has been bifurcated into two union territories.

Malik, 73, replaced Mridula Sinha who was holding the Goa governor's post since August 2014.

Missing Thoothukudi Fishermen Safe, Search Still on For Kanyakumari Fisherfolk

Fishermen missing from Tharuvaikulam from Thoothukudi district have all been traced and found to be safe, two weeks after they ventured out to sea. The 39 fishermen who were in five boats had left for deep sea fishing before a cyclone warning was announced and it was suspected that they were trapped in rough waters.

However, Thoothukudi MP and DMK leader Kanimozhi confirmed to TNM that authorities have communicated with all five boats. While four boats reached their home towns on Friday, one more missing boat has reached Minicoy island in Lakshadweep.

Alliance University V-C Ayyappa Dore Murder: Bengaluru Police Make Three More Arrests

The Bengaluru police probing the murder of Ayyappa Dore, the former Vice Chancellor of Alliance University, have arrested three more persons in connection with the crime. Ayyappa Dore was hacked to death with machetes and knives on the night of October 15 at HMT grounds in Bengaluru's RT Nagar.

Manjunath alias Manju (26), a resident of Bengaluru's JC Nagar; Srinivas (18), from Munireddypalya; and Mahendra (31), from Anekal, were arrested on Saturday. Investigating officers say that the prime accused in the case, Suraj Singh, an employee of Alliance Unversity, hired the trio to allegedly conduct reconnaissance missions before the murder. All three of them are unemployed. “They are all college dropouts and Suraj Singh had offered each person Rs 20 lakh," a senior police official said.

Kerala School Students Suspended For Posters Seeking Justice for Walayar Sisters

Three students from Vilavoorkal Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram were suspended last week for putting up posters in their classroom in support of the Walayar sisters, who were raped and later found dead at their house in 2017.

The plus-two students were summoned by the school principal on Thursday, and asked to bring their parents to school the next day. The school authorities informed their parents that posters were not allowed inside the class, and that the students will be suspended for a week. Later when some of the parents pleaded with the management, the suspension period was reduced to three days; the students cannot enter their classrooms till Wednesday.

29 Injured as Bus From Paris to London Flips Over

A French newspaper has reported that a bus headed from Paris to London has flipped onto its side in the northern Somme region of France, leaving 29 people injured, four seriously.

The Courrier Picard newspaper said the FlixBus that crashed on Sunday on a wet highway was carrying passengers from the US, Spain, Australia, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Britain and France. The bus was carrying 32 passengers.
