Petrol at Rs 80.50 in Delhi, Diesel at Rs 72.61

The fuel rates continue to rise, with the price of petrol rising to Rs 80.50 per litre in Delhi on Sunday, 9 September, an increase of 12 paise. Meanwhile, diesel price has increased by 10 paise to reach Rs 72.61 per litre in the national capital. In Mumbai too, the petrol price rose by 12 paise to reach Rs 87.89 per litre, while the diesel price was at Rs 77.09 per litre on Sunday.

Nun Found Dead at Mount Tabor Dayara in Kerala's Kollam

A 55-year-old nun has been found dead inside a well at the Mount Tabor Dayara Convent in Kerala's Kollam, ANI reported on Sunday, 9 September.

CRPF Jawan Kills Self in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband District

A CRPF jawan allegedly killed himself in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district in the wee hours Sunday, an official of the paramilitary force said.

Head constable Karan Singh, belonging to the CRPF's 65th battalion, shot himself with his service rifle around 1 am inside his camp located in the Bindranawagarh police station area, around 150 km from state capital Raipur.

Arif Alvi takes oath as Pakistan's New President

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader, Arif Alvi took oath as the country's 13th President on Sunday, a day after outgoing President Mamnoon Hussain's five-year term ended.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar administered the oath to Alvi, who was elected to the National Assembly from Karachi's NA-247 constituency in July, Dawn news reported.

Speaking to the media in Delhi, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday announced that Statue of Unity (monument statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October this year.

8 Jawan Injured After a Fatal Accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Shahpur Area

At least eight jawans were injured accident near Himachal Pradesh’s Shahpur area, ANI reported. According to the reports, one is said to be in a critical condition and has been rushed to a nearby hospital.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Shahpur was later present at the site of the accident for inspection of the cause.

Earthquake Tremors Felt in Delhi NCR

On Sunday, light earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and National capital region, ANI reported. So far, no reports on damage have been surfaced. The epicenter is yet to be known.

Rajasthan CM Announces a 4% Reduction in VAT on Petrol and Diesel

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced a four-per cent reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel on Sunday, which will reduce their prices by Rs 2.5 per litre in the state.

VAT on petrol will be reduced from 30 to 26 per cent and on diesel from 22 to 18 per cent, Raje announced at a public meeting organised in Rawatsar in Hanumangarh district as part of her 'Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra'.

Security Forces Arrest Terrorist in Manipur

Security forces arrested a terrorist and a recruiter of a militant organisation in two separate operations in Manipur, an Assam Rifles statement said Sunday.

A team of Assam Rifles and state police commandos on Saturday arrested an active cadre of proscribed outfit PREPAK, from Palace Compound in Imphal East district, said the statement, it said.

The recruiter belonging to the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup (KYKL) was apprehended from Tentha Khunau on Friday by a joint team of Assam Rifles personnel and state police commandos.

Both the arrested persons have been handed over to the police to initiate legal actions, it added.

Need to Preserve True Values of Hinduism to Alter 'Ill-Informed' Opinions: Naidu

Some people are trying to make the word Hindu "untouchable" and "intolerable", Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said Sunday, 9 September, as he stressed on the need of preserving the true values of Hinduism to alter "ill-informed" opinions and attitudes.

In his keynote address to the concluding session of the second World Hindu Congress here, Naidu said India believed in universal tolerance and accepted all religions as true.

Share and care is the core of the Hindu philosophy, he said, outlining the important aspects of Hinduism.

Naidu rued that a lot of disinformation (about Hinduism) is going around.

BSF Hands over Pak Intruder Who Crossed over Inadvertently: Officials

The BSF Sunday, 10 September, handed over a Pakistani intruder, who had inadvertently crossed over to the Indian territory, back to the Pakistani Rangers, officials said.

The BSF had apprehended Hanif, son of Allahadin, a resident of Village Rattanwala in Kasur district on Saturday. BSF officials said Hanif was found roaming near the border out post (BOP), Maboke, around 5 pm.
