The Supreme Court on Friday, 8 February, observed prima facie BSP leader Mayawati has to pay back all the public money spent on statues, while hearing a plea seeking direction to restrain her from spending public money .
CJI Ranjan Gogoi has said that the plea will, however, be heard on 2 April.

Three cops trapped inside their post, under a snow avalanche near Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway were rescued on Friday, officials said.
Efforts are on to rescue the seven other policemen still feared to be trapped.
The avalanche had hit the north portal of Jawahar Tunnel on the Qazigund side in Kulgam district on Thursday evening.

Two persons including an Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) were killed in a landslide on Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir Friday, 8 February, officials said.
The victims were crossing a landslide zone on foot in Maroog area, when the landslide hit them, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as AAO Pramod Mankotia, resident of Himachal Pradesh, and Sanjit Lakara of West Bengal.

Australia’s security agencies are investigating an attempt to hack the federal parliament’s computer network.
In a joint statement, parliament’s presiding officers Scott Ryan and Tony Smith reported a “security incident on the parliamentary computing network” occurred overnight and into Friday morning.
No data breach has been reported, and they said all passwords had been reset out of an abundance of caution, the officers said.

India test-fired its helicopter-launched version of one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons from the Odisha coast today.
Helina, the helicopter-launched version of the Nag anti-tank guided missile with a hit range of 7-8 km, was launched from an Army chopper. The weapon system was tested for its full range at 12.55 pm near the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Balasore district, defence sources said.
During the trial, the Helina was released smoothly from the launch platform, following which the missile tracked the target all through its course in order to strike with high precision.

An inquiry was started today by the city magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar into the fire incident at the Metro Hospitals and Heart Institute in Noida, where several patients had to be evacuated after they were trapped inside the multi-storeyed building.
City Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Mishra said he has also called a meeting of experts from different departments to look into the incident.

DMK President M K Stalin today urged the Election Commission to hold by-polls for 21 vacant assembly seats in Tamil Nadu simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections, due by May.
A delegation headed by Rajya Sabha MP and DMK leader Kanimozhi submitted a letter addressed to the EC by Stalin at the office of the poll panel in New Delhi, a party release said.
"We request the ECI to hold elections to the 21 Assembly seats along with election to 39 parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu," Stalin said in the letter, a copy of which was released to the media.

The Delhi High Court dismissed a plea seeking framing of guidelines by government to regulate the functioning of online media streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

India sent a Note verbale to Pakistan in protest against Hafiz Saeed's rally on 'Kashmir solidarity day' in Pakistan.
