Congress President Rahul Gandhi to visit Wayanad, Kerala for the first time after winning from the parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a two-day visit to Bhutan from today, his first overseas trip after assuming charge of the ministry.
MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said during the visit, Jaishankar would call on Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering and is expected to receive an audience with King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
He will also hold talks with his Bhutanese counterpart Tandi Dorji.
"It will be Jaishankar's first visit abroad as the external affairs minister and reflects the importance that India attaches to its relationship with Bhutan, a close friend and neighbour," Kumar said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping appears on Friday as guest of honour at Russia's showcase economic forum, as the two neighbours present a united front in the face of shared troubles with the US.
Xi arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for a three-day visit with Vladimir Putin and described the Russian leader as his "best friend" during a cosy meeting at the Kremlin.
To end the trip, Xi and his host will appear at a plenary session of the annual Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, which Moscow hopes will woo foreign investors despite an uncertain business climate.
Xi is set to present China's ideas on sustainable development and multilateral cooperation, Beijing said ahead of his appearance.
The 2019 forum "will illustrate very clearly just how bi-polar the world has become," said Chris Weafer, a senior partner at the Macro Advisory consulting firm.

Anti-EU populist Nigel Farage's new Brexit Party failed to win its first seat in Britain's parliament as it lost out to the main opposition Labour Party in a crunch by-election, results on Friday showed.
The poll in the eastern English city of Peterborough was triggered after the sitting MP, Fiona Onasanya, was dumped by voters after being jailed for lying over a speeding offence.
The Brexit Party's candidate Mike Greene, a local entrepreneur, came in second with nearly 29 percent of the vote, behind Labour's Lisa Forbes, who won around 31 percent. The ruling Conservatives came third with 21 percent, while the Liberal Democrats won 12 percent.

The Uttar Pradesh police have attached the property of an accused in a Muzaffarnagar riots case after he failed to surrender before the court despite repeated arrest warrants.
Ravinder Singh had allegedly stabbed a youth, Shahnawaz, to death at Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar on 27 August 2013.
Singh was among the six accused in the case. The others who have been arrested include Prehlad, Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devender and Jitender.
The stabbing incident had led to widespread riots in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts, where more than 60 persons were killed and over 40,000 displaced.

Kumar Iyer has been appointed by the UK government as the Chief Economist of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), making him the first Indian-origin member of the department's management board.
Iyer, who was born in London and spent his early years in India, has previously been based in Mumbai as Britain's Deputy High Commissioner.
In this new role as the Chief Economist, which commences in July, he will lead the FCO's Economics Unit which provides in-house economic analysis input into foreign policy formulation, and also develop economics capability within the FCO through the Economics and Prosperity Faculty of the Diplomatic Academy.

A Delhi court has granted bail to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on a complaint against him for his alleged 'scorpion on Shivling' remark.
Tharoor has been granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000. The matter will now be heard on 25 July for recording of statement of complainant and BJP leader Rajeev Babbar.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Bhutan on Friday on a two-day visit, his first overseas trip after assuming charge of the ministry, during which he will hold talks with his Bhutanese counterpart and call on Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.
Jaishankar, who assumed charge on 30 May, is expected to receive an audience with King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
He was received by his Bhutanese counterpart Tandi Dorji on his arrival in country.

Two persons were killed and at least 99 others injured after a strong wind storm hit several places in Nepal's far-western Sudurpaschim province, according to a Himalayan Times report.
The storm hit areas in the two adjoining districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur districts on Thursday, damaging hundreds of houses. Roads were blocked as trees and utility poles were uprooted. Power too was disrupted following the strong winds.
Security personnel from Nepal Police, Army and Armed Police Force have been mobilised for rescue and relief operations.

While patrolling on 6 June, troops of 231 battalion CRPF found a severely ill 13-year-old boy in Gumodi village. The troops carried the boy on a cot for 8 km and got him treated in their camp Kondasavli in Sukma. He was found to be suffering from jaundice; is stable now.

Swedish police say a blast ripped through two adjacent apartment buildings in a southern city. It isn't immediately clear if there are casualties.
The explosion has blown out windows and destroyed balconies in the buildings in central Linkoping, about 175 kilometers (110 miles) southwest of Stockholm. One of the buildings had five stories, while the other had four floors.

In an intensive drive, the Mathura police seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 1.1 crore from interstate gangs that was trying to smuggle it in various vehicles including an ambulance, the city police chief said.
