A black man was arrested and charged with murder in the killing of a 7-year-old black girl in a drive-by shooting that authorities said Sunday appeared to be a case of mistaken identity, not a racially motivated attack, as her family feared.
Jazmine Barnes' family had described the gunman in the Dec 30 slaying as a white man driving a red pickup, and believed race played a role in the shooting.

Authorities in Kentucky say five family members from Michigan headed home from vacation were among six people killed in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 75.
Lexington police said in a statement that a southbound pickup truck being driven in the northbound lanes struck the family's sport utility vehicle at 2.30 am Sunday. The statement says the SUV caught fire. All five occupants died, along with the pickup's driver.

At least 75 people have been injured in a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that shook Gilangharb city in Iran's Kermanshah province, Pir Hossein Kolivand, head of Iran Emergency Organisation, said.

The apex court said, it is concerned that officials will be arrested if its orders scrapping Sec 66 A is violated.

SC is set to deliver judgment on Tuesday on CBI Director Alok Verma’s petition challenging Centre’s decision to send him on leave pending CVC inquiry.
The Supreme Court today asked Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom) and Reliance Jio to take a decision by 11 January over the settlement of past dues to DoT, which is yet to give clearance to their spectrum sale deal.
It also asked RJio to furnish an undertaking to abide by the spectrum trade guidelines, to which the company said that it cannot take this risk knowing the problems faced with regard to the past dues.
A bench of Justices R F Nariman and Vineet Sharan said, "You both (RCom and RJio) sit together and settle the issue among yourselves by 11 January. Till you do not settle among yourselves, we can't do anything."

The Sri Lankan Navy today arrested four Tamil Nadu fishermen for allegedly fishing in the island nation's territorial waters.
Fisheries department assistant director Kumaresan said the fishermen, who set out for fishing from Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district, have been taken to Kangesanthurai along with their boat.
Lankan naval personnel arrested them when they were allegedly fishing near Nedunthivu, officials said.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das today said the central bank will announce a decision on giving interim dividend to the government once such a final view is taken.
The government has already said it will seek interim dividend from the RBI in order to maintain its fiscal deficit of 3.3 percent of the GDP for 2018-19.
Last fiscal, the RBI paid an interim dividend of Rs 10,000 crore to the Centre. RBI follows the July-June calendar.

A 28-year-old self-styled spiritual leader in Nepal, popular as "Buddha Boy", is under investigation after four devotees, including three nuns, disappeared from his ashrams, according to a media report.
A joint team of Central Bureau of Investigation and police raided Ram Bahadur Bomjan's ashram in Sindhupalchowk district last week after four persons went missing, the Kathmandu Post reported.

A man who had been absconding for 27 years, after he was booked in a rape and kidnap case, was arrested on Monday in Jammu district, police said.
Based on a tip-off, police raided a place in Pargwal and arrested the accused, Rattan Lal, Police said.
Lal is booked in a rape and kidnapping case, which he committed in 1991.
