Greater Efforts Will Be Needed to Reduce Fiscal Deficit: IMF

The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday said that greater efforts will be needed to reduce the fiscal deficit as the interim budget envisages a slower pace of fiscal consolidation than previously planned.

"The interim budget envisages a slower pace of fiscal consolidation than previously planned, delaying the time to reach the medium-term central-government debt target of 40 percent of GDP," Ranil Salgado, IMF mission chief for India told PTI.

Indian Communication Satellite GSAT-31 Launched Successfully

India's 40th communication satellite GSAT-31 was successfully put into orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket belonging to Arianespace on early Wednesday, said Indian space agency ISRO and Arianespace.

According to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the telecommunication satellite, GSAT-31 was successfully launched on February 06, 2019 from Kourou launch base, French Guiana by Ariane-5.

A fire broke out at the Army's residential quarters in Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Wednesday afternoon, an official said.

Jaipur: Three Dead, Three Injured in SUV-Bus Collision

Three persons were killed and as many injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and a bus in Rajasthan's Nagaur district on Wednesday, police said.

Two occupants of the vehicle died on the spot and a critically-injured person succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital. The injured have been admitted to a hospital, said the report.

Seven Held Guilty for Killing Two Youths That Led to 2013 Muzaffarnagar Riots

A local court on Wednesday held seven men guilty of killing two youths in Kawal village in an attack which is said to have triggered the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots that led to the killings of over 60 people.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Himashu Bhatnagar convicted Muzammil, Mujassim, Furkan, Nadeem, Janangir, Afzal and Ikbal for killing Gaurav and Sachin on 27 August, 2013 and rioting, said district prosecution counsel Rajiv Sharma.

The court will pronounce the quantum of their sentences on Friday.

MHA Launches Recruitment Drive to Fill Over 76,000 Posts in CAPFs

The Union Home Ministry has launched a massive recruitment drive to fill 76,578 vacancies, including 7,646 posts for women, in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

In a statement, the home ministry said out of these vacancies, 54,953 posts are for the constable cadre and they will be hired through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

Out of the 54,953 posts of constables, the CRPF has the maximum 21,566 vacancies, followed by the BSF (16,984 posts), the SSB (8,546 posts), the ITBP (4,126 posts) and the Assam Rifles (3,076 posts) and the remaining being in the CISF and other CAPFs.

Health Ministry Scrambles to Assist States in Containing Swine Flu Cases
