Hong Kong Ban on Masks Sparks Violent Clashes, Rail Shutdown

Hong Kong's entire mass transit rail system was suspended on Saturday after a night of violence sparked by a ban on pro-democracy protesters wearing face masks, as the government imposed emergency powers not used in more than half a century.

The ban was aimed at quelling nearly four months of unrest but instead sparked widespread clashes and vows of defiance, with a 14-year-old boy reportedly shot and wounded.

President Kovind Calls for Responsible Business, Balanced Economic Objectives

President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday said company secretaries must ensure that stakeholders understand the difference between profit and profiteering, while fostering responsible business and balance economic objectives with larger socio-economic goals.

Addressing the 51st Foundation Day of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), he said, "we have seen how some business enterprises have broken the trust of the people. Companies have either faltered or have come to a standstill. In the process, common people have had to suffer."

Campaign: Sanders had heart attack, released from hospital Las Vegas

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders had a heart attack, his campaign has confirmed as the Vermont senator was released from a Nevada hospital.

The 78-year-old was at a campaign event Tuesday when he experienced chest discomfort and was taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a heart attack. The senator was transferred to Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, where doctors inserted two stents to open up a blocked artery in his heart, according to a statement from the Las Vegas doctors.

Two Siblings Among Three Drown in Bihar Well

Three persons, including two teenage siblings, drowned in a well in Bihar's Vaishali district while they were trying to retrieve a cricket ball from it, police said.

The incident occurred at Gurmiya village under the jurisdiction of Kartahan police station, a police officer said.

The three climbed down the well, one after another, to fetch the cricket ball, and all of them drowned in it, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kartahan police station said.

Mumbai Congress chief Eknath Gaikwad said withdrawal limit for customers of the scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC) should be raised as the 25,000 limit for six months was inadequate.

Some officials of PMC bank are accused of providing loans to HDIL group and in the process causing losses of Rs 4,355.43 crore to the bank.

Bihar: Punpun River Water Level Starts Receding

The water level in Punpun river, which was flowing 3.01 metres above the danger mark in Bihar has started receding, a Water Resources Department bulletin said.

The river had recorded this monsoon's highest rainfall on 4 October, taking water level to 53.61 metres near Sripalpur, which is 3.01 metres above the danger mark, it said.

The Indian military exercise Him-Vijay in Arunachal Pradesh has nothing to do with Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to India, defence sources said.

The Indian Army's newly raised 17 Corps is carrying out the mega exercise at a height of around 15,000 ft in Arunachal Pradesh.
