Petrol and Diesel Prices Hit All-Time High

The petrol price increased by Rs 0.16/litre to Rs 86.72/litre in Mumbai, while the diesel price increased by Rs 0.2/litre to Rs 75.74/litre on Tuesday, 4 September.

In Delhi, the price of petrol stood at Rs 79.31/litre while that of diesel was Rs 71.34/litre.

Artifacts Stolen from Nizam's Museum in Hyderabad

A gold tiffin box weighing two kilogram, a cup, saucer, and spoon studded with rubies, diamonds and emeralds were stolen from Nizam's Museum in Hyderabad, IANS reported.

Burglars allegedly broke into the museum located in Purani Haveli in the old city of Hyderabad late on 2 September. The museum authorities lodged a complaint with Mir Chowk police station after they found the valuables missing on 3 September.

An investigation is underway, IANS added.

5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits China's Xinjiang

An earthquake measuring 5.5-magnitude on the Richter scale hit China's Xinjiang on Tuesday, 4 September according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).

According to CENC, the earthquake struck at 5.52 a.m. at a depth of 8km. No reports on damages or death have been reported.

Taliban Announces Death of Haqqani Network Leader

Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid has announced death of Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of Haqqani Network, member of Quetta Shura, AFP reported.

Haqqani was an instrumental figure in keeping Taliban together after death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar and military supremo Sirajuddin Haqqani.

NH-5 Near Himachal Pradesh District Blocked After Landslide

The National Highway 5 near Himachal Pradesh's Bhattakufer area was blocked after a landslide that occured in the early morning of 4 September, ANI reported.

Following the incident, vehicular traffic was diverted via Sanjauli and Lalkar bazaar route for a steady flow of traffic, the report added.

Rupee Falls To All-Time Low Against Dollar

Indian rupee extended decline and fell to a new all-time low of 71.37 per dollar compared with yesterday's (3 September) close of 71.22.

Sensex at 38,340, Nifty Crosses 11,700 Mark

The Sensex rose 30 points to 38,340 while the Nifty was little changed at 11,583.

Eleven of 19 sector gauges compiled by Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) were trading lower led by the S&P BSE FMCG Index's 0.5 percent drop. On the flipside, the S&P BSE IT Index was the top gainer, up 1.12 percent.

The mid- and small-cap shares were mixed as the S&P BSE MidCap index fell 0.2 percent while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was little changed.

IAF MiG 27 Aircraft Crashes in Rajasthan, Pilot Safe

On early Tuesday, September 4, an Indian Air Force MiG 27 aircraft during a routine mission, crashed near a village in Jodhpur, Rajasthan ANI reported. The report stated that the pilot ejected safely.

The IAF also told ANI that a court of inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident.

Delhi Man Beaten to Death On Suspicion of Theft

A man was beaten to death in Delhi’s Mukundpur area on the suspicion of committing theft, ANI reported.

Following the said, the police said that three people have been arrested while three are absconding. A case has been registered under section 304 IPC, ANI reported.

CJI in a Letter Recommends Justice Ranjan Gogoi As Successor

Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra’s office has sent the letter to the Union of India (UOI) recommending Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India, ANI reported.

CJI Misra will retire on 2 October.

Two Convicted in 2007 Hyderabad Twin Blasts Case

A court has convicted Aneeq Shafeeq Sayeed and Ismail Chaudhary in the twin-bombing at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat in Hyderabad in 2007, ANI reported. Two more accused in the case, Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkish and Mohd Sadiq Israr Shaik have been acquitted, the report added.

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on 10 September, ANI reported.

The 2007 twin-blasts claimed 42 lives, while over 50 were left injured.

Sambit Patra Accuses Congress of Ties to Naxalism

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the Congress of supporting Naxalism, ANI reported.

“A letter between two comrades Surendra & Prakash dated 25 September 2017 has been found in recent raids. A line in the letter reads, 'Congress leaders are very much willing to assist in this process & have also agreed to fund further agitations whenever such opportunities arrive. In this regard, you can contact our friend on this ..... number. This phone number belongs to none other than Rahul Gandhi's mentor and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. Digvijaya Singh hasn't clarified that it's not his number and thus, has accepted that it's his,” Patra said in a statement to ANI.

Bombay HC Refuses Lt Col Purohit Plea on Malegaon Blast Case

The Bombay High Court refused to stay framing of charges by lower court against Lt Col Purohit and others in the Malegaon Blast case , ANI reported.

The High Court also said that matter pertaining to validity of sanction for prosecution against Lt Col Purohit under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is to be decided by trial court.

4 People in Madhya Pradesh Dead After Car Falls into River

Earlier on Tuesday, 4 September, four people in Madhya Pradhya died their car fell into the river Bhind, ANI reported.

The cause of the incident is yet to be known.

Meghalaya CM Quits Lok Sabha

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma resigned from the Lok Sabha after being elected to the Meghalaya Assembly on 27 August. He will take oath as a member of the Assembly on 10 September.

Sangma, who won the by-election from South Tura, said he had submitted his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

The by-election in South Tura was necessitated after Agatha Sangma resigned to pave the way for her brother Conrad to contest in order to retain the post of Chief Minister.
