Rahul Gandhi Forms 9 Committees to Manage Rajasthan Polls

With Rajasthan Assembly Polls inching closer, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday constituted nine different committees to manage its campaign in the poll-bound state.

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) president Sachin Pilot has been appointed the Chairman of 44 members Pradesh Election Committee.

US President Donald Trump approved the new National Strategy for Counter terrorism to thwart threats to US interests, both at home and abroad.

NSA John Bolton while unveiling the strategy said that Trump administration identifies the problem to be stemming from Islamist ideologies.

Tripura Slash Fuel Prices by Rs 5

Centre took a historic decision today. The government of Tripura has also decided to give additional relief of Rs 2.5 per litre on petrol and diesel to give total relief of Rs 5 per litre in the state. The rates will be effective from midnight: Tripura CM Biplab Kumar.

R N Ravi Re-designated as Deputy NSA

R N Ravi, the Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, has been re-designated as the Deputy National Security Advisor, an official order said.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved re-designating R N Ravi as Deputy National Security Advisor (Internal Affairs) and as interlocutor of the government of India in Nagaland, instead of Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee, the order said.

Delhi Taimoor Nagar Shooting Case: Police Arrests Three

Three men have been arrested related to a case where a 34-year old man was shot dead in Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar area on 30 September.

As per police’s statement, two have confessed involvement in the murder of Rupesh Kumar. More details are awaited.

The Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, 4 October. The Indian Army retaliated and the firing stopped after sometime, reported ANI.

Putin Arrives in India for Summit With Modi

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Delhi on Thursday on a two-day visit to hold the annual bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation, was received by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit will take place in Delhi on Friday during which Modi and Putin are expected to review bilateral defence cooperation in the wake of the US sanctions against Russian defence majors.

Bhushan, Shourie Demand CBI Probe Into Rafale Deal

Lawyer Prashant Bhushan and former Union minister Arun Shourie met CBI Director Alok Verma on Thursday, demanding a probe into alleged corruption in the Rafale aircraft deal and offset contract.

Along with a "detailed" complaint under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Bhushan and Shourie also submitted documents buttressing their arguments for the need of probe.

The Delhi Police on Thursday informed a court in Delhi that it has handed over copies of all the evidence to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, accused in the death case of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

The National Commission for Women has directed Kerala MLA PC George to appear before it on 13 November for allegedly making objectionable comments on the nun who levelled rape allegations against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

Sensex Tanks 806 Points, Nifty Closes at 10,599

Markets went into a free fall on Thursday with the benchmark Sensex crashing over 806 points to end below the 35,200-level after the rupee crashed to a new life-time low and global crude price breached the USD 86 a barrel.

The 50-share NSE Nifty also cracked the 10,600-level by falling 259 points, or 2.39 per cent, to close at 10,599.25 after hitting a low of 10,547.25.

Maharashtra, Gujarat Slash Fuel Prices by Rs 5

The Maharashtra Government has announced to give an additional relief of Rs 2.5 per litre on petrol, making the total benefit Rs 5 per litre in the state.

The Gujarat government also announced cuts to the same effect, reducing the prices by Rs 2.5 per litre on petrol and diesel prices.

Centre Reduces Fuel Prices by Rs 2.50

The Centre announced a Rs 2.50 a litre cut in petrol and diesel prices, factoring in excise duty reduction of Rs 1.50 per litre and asking oil companies to absorb another Re 1.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the excise duty cut would have an impact of Rs 10,500 crore on central government's tax revenues.

The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi said, “Your (Abhijit Iyer-Mitra) comments incite religious feelings. How are you entitled for bail?”

Toll From Quake, Tsunami Now 1,424

Indonesia's disaster agency says the death toll from the earthquake and tsunami that struck a central island last week has increased slightly to 1,424.

The disasters struck Palu and surrounding districts in Central Sulawesi province last Friday.

National disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said other victims still are buried in the mud and debris and have not yet been recovered.

Heavy Rain Expected in Southern India, Andaman & Nicobar islands & Lakshadweep: IMD

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. Heavy rain is also expected in parts of south Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands between 4 October and 8 October, the India Meteorological Department said.

The department also said that rough to very rough sea conditions are likely to prevail over south and central Arabian Sea from 6 to 8 October, and fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.

SC Allows Deportation of Seven Rohingyas From Assam to Myanmar

The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the deportation of seven Rohingyas, who have illegally immigrated to Assam in India, to their country of origin, Myanmar.

It said the seven Rohingyas were found by the competent court as illegal immigrants, and Myanmar had accepted them as its citizens.

Prashant Bhushan represented the Rohingya refugees, and asked for a stay on the deportation, which was oppposed by ASG Tushar Mehta.

Indian equity benchmarks witnessed steep losses on the back of a selloff across the sectors.

The S&P BSE Sensex slumped as much as 1.76 percent or 634 points to 35,341 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index tumbled 1.8 percent or 195 points to 10,663.

Rupee Falls To Record Low 73.73 Per Dollar

Indian rupee extended decline and fell as much as 0.53 percent or 39 paise to record low of 73.73 per dollar as a stronger dollar and higher oil prices weighs on the sentiment.
