245 Sedition Cases Filed in Assam Since 2016

The Assam government on Monday said as many as 245 sedition cases were registered across 17 districts since the BJP-led alliance came to power in the state in 2016.

In a written reply in the assam assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said 245 sedition cases were filed against various individuals and banned organisations since 26 May 2016, when the present coalition government took charge.

Sensex Ends 113.31 Pts Higher, Nifty Rises 18.60 Pts

The benchmark BSE Sensex on Monday recovered from the day's low to end 113 points higher, led by gains in RIL and heavy buying by foreign investors ahead of the RBI's monetary policy review.

After gyrating nearly 400 points between the day's low of 36,225.48 and an intra-day high of 36,622.77, the 30-share index ended 113.31 points, or 0.31 per cent, higher at 36,582.74.

The NSE Nifty also edged higher by 18.60 points, or 0.17 per cent, to close at 10,912.25.

33 Injured After Bus Falls into Gorge in Himachal's Kangra

Thirty-three people were injured after a private bus fell into a gorge at Gopalpur in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Monday, a district official said.

The condition of eleven of them is critical. Ten of them have been referred to the Tanda Medical College and one to a hospital in the district's Palampur sub-division, he added.

Explosives Recovered from Railway Station, Train in Assam

A large quantity of explosives, including gelatin sticks, detonators and fuse wire, was recovered from Guwahati Railway Station and Avadh-Assam Express in Morigaon district of Assam on Monday, the GRP said.

US Sends Additional 3,750 Soldiers to Border with Mexico

The US Department of Defence on Sunday announced they will send an additional 3,750 soldiers to the border with Mexico for three months, during which time they will build some 240 meters of fence and provide logistical support to the US Border Patrol agents.

With this new deployment, the total number of soldiers on the border with Mexico will rise to 4,350, a Pentagon spokesman said in a statement, reports Efe.
