J&K Municipal Body Elections To be Conducted Between 1 Oct & 5 Oct

The State Administrative Council (SAC) of Jammu and Kashmir has decided that the elections to municipal bodies will be conducted in 4 phases with polling dates between 1 October and 5 October, 2018. Elections to panchayats will be conducted in 8 phases with polling dates between 8 November and 4 December, reported ANI.

Russia's Putin to Meet Leaders of Turkey & Iran on 7 September

Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend a three-way summit in Tehran on 7 September with the leaders of Turkey and Iran, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

The three leaders met in April in Ankara, where they discussed developments in Syria.

Census 2021 to Collect Data on OBC For the First Time

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on 31 August, said that data on Other Backward Class for the first time will be collected in the upcoming census of 2021, ANI reported.

The announcement came after Singh was reviewing the functioning of the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner in New Delhi.

“The Home Minister discussed the road map for undertaking census in 2021 and emphasised that improvements in design and technological interventions will be made to ensure census data is finalised within three years after conducting of census,” ANI reported.

Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, and other senior officers were also present in the meeting, ANI added.

Sensex, Nifty Little Changed Ahead of GDP Report

Indian equity benchmarks were little changed as gains in IT and pharma stocks was offset by losses in Reliance Industries and private sector lenders ahead of June quarter GDP data.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.12 percent or 45 points to 38,645 while the NSE Nifty 50 index was little changed at 11,680.

The Sensex rose for a fifth month in a row posting its longest rally since August 2016, Bloomberg data showed.

Eleven of 19 sector gauges compiled by BSE ended higher led by the S&P BSE Healthcare index's 2.2 percent gain. On the flipside, the S&P BSE Energy index was top loser, down 1.5 percent.

Syed Shakeel Yousuf, son of Hizbul Mujahideen leader, Syed Salahuddin, has been sent to National Investigation Agency (NIA) remand till 10 September by an NIA Court, ANI reported.

Syed Shakeel Yousuf was arrested on 31 August from Srinagar.

PM to Launch India Post Payments Bank Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 1 September, will launch the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) that seeks to leverage the expansive network of the postal department to ensure financial inclusion for the masses.

The event is scheduled to be held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, along with simultaneous launch events at 650 branches and 3,250 access points that will go live, an official statement said.

Two Killed, Six Injured After Masked Men Go On Stabbing Spree in Delhi

Two men were killed and six others injured after two masked men went on a rampage, attacking and stabbing people randomly in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri, the police said on Thursday, 30 August. The incident reportedly happened on 29 August.

It is suspected that the killings were the fallout of a gang rivalry between two groups trying to assert their dominance in the area, police said.
