Pentagon to Send 320 More Troops to US-Mexico Border

The US Defence Department announced on Monday it would deploy around 320 additional troops to the southern border with Mexico to support immigration officials.

The troops, set to deploy until the end of September, will add to around 2,900 active duty military and 2,000 National Guard members currently posted to the border.

Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Davis said the troops would assist with transporting migrants, monitoring the welfare of migrants in custody and providing heating and meals.

1 Indian, 3 Indian-Origin Persons Killed In US: Sushma Swaraj

An Indian national and three persons of Indian-origin have been killed in Cincinnati in the US and the matter is being investigated by police there, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Tuesday, 30 April.

Swaraj, however, ruled out the possibility of a hate crime.  "Indian Ambassador in United States @IndianEmbassyUS has informed me about the killing of four persons in Cincinnati on Sunday evening. One of them was an Indian national on a visit to US while others were persons of Indian origin," she tweeted.

The matter is under investigation by police, but it is not a hate crime, Swaraj said.
