Nagpur-Mumbai Nandigram Express Engine Catches Fire

Nagpur-Mumbai Nandigram Express halted for more than four hours at Deulgaon Avchar village in Parbhani district of Maharashtra after one of its engines caught fire, officials said on Thursday.

Nandigram Express running from Nagpur towards Mumbai via Aurangabad had two diesel engines attached. It was supposed to reach Aurangabad at 9.30 pm, but at around 8 pm one of the engines caught fire, halting its movement for over four hours, Railway Pravasi Sena head and volunteer Santosh Somani told PTI.

The train moved towards Aurangabad from Ranjani at around 12 am, he said.

Poll Affidavit 'Cheating' Case: HC Grants Bail to Amit Jogi

The Chhattisgarh High Court granted bail to former MLA and Janata Congress Chhattisgarh state chief Amit Jogi, who was arrested last month for allegedly giving false information in an affidavit submitted by him during the 2013 state assembly election.

The bench of Justice RCS Samant, which had reserved the order after hearing the arguments on his bail plea on 25 September, delivered it today, Jogi's lawyer Vivek Sharma said.

11 People Killed in Southern Iraq Protests Overnight

Eleven people were killed during protests overnight in two southern Iraqi cities, including a policeman, police and medical sources said on Thursday, raising the death toll to 18 since anti-government protests turned violent two days ago.

Seven protesters and a policeman died in Nassiriya during clashes between demonstrators and security forces. Four more people were killed in the city of Amara, the sources said.

Rana Kapoor's Man Friday Rajat Monga Quits Yes Bank

Rajat Monga, the senior group president and former chief financial officer at the troubled lender Yes Bank, has quit, chief executive Ravneet Gill said on Thursday.

The announcement came during a conference call with investors and analysts following a heavy plunge in the bank's share price over the past few sessions.

The bank scrip had dipped to historic lows and lost 22 percent of its value just on Tuesday to close at a low Rs 32, down from a high of Rs 404 in August 2018 when RBI asked Rana Kapoor to leave the bank.

Gill's comments before the markets opened lifted the stock, though, rallying over 24 percent on the BSE, whose benchmark was down around 0.3 percent.

Petrol, Diesel Prices Begin to Fall for the First Time in 3 Weeks

For the first time in the last three weeks, petrol and diesel prices were decreased today by government-owned fuel retailers.

The impact of a decline in crude oil rates in the international market during the last few days can now be felt in fuel rates in India. The price of petrol fell by 10 paise a litre while diesel by 6 paise a litre today.

World War II-Era Bomber Crashes in US; At Least 7 Reported Dead

A World War II-era plane with 13 people aboard crashed and burned at the Hartford airport after encountering mechanical trouble on takeoff Wednesday, killing seven of them.

The four-engine, propeller-driven B-17 bomber struggled to get into the air and slammed into a maintenance building at Bradley International Airport as the pilots circled back for a landing, officials and witnesses said.

It had 10 passengers and three crew members, authorities said.

New Zealand Mosque Attack Accused Drops Bid to Move Trial

The man accused of murdering 51 Muslim worshipers in March's New Zealand mosque attacks on Thursday dropped a bid to move his trial from the city where the massacre occurred.

The High Court held a pre-trial hearing in Christchurch to consider an application from alleged gunman Brenton Tarrant to shift the trial venue from the South Island city.

But judge Cameron Mander announced at the beginning of proceedings that the defence had decided not to pursue the application, which was originally lodged in August.

No reason was given for the decision. The 28-year-old Australian has pleaded not guilty to 51 counts of murder, 40 of attempted murder, and engaging in a terrorist act.

Submarine-Launched Missile Test Successful, Says North Korea

North Korea has said that its test-firing of a new submarine-launched ballistic missile in the waters off its east coast was successful.

The test-firing on Wednesday was North Korea's first of a submarine-launched missile in three years, which occurred ahead of a restart of nuclear negotiations between North Korea and the United States this weekend.

The report did not elaborate on whether the missile was fired from a submarine, a barge or other underwater launch platform.
