Maduro Exhorts Venezuela Military to Fight 'Any Coup Plotter'

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Thursday called on the armed forces to oppose "any coup plotter" after a military uprising in support of opposition leader Juan Guaido fizzled out, and subsequent street clashes left four protesters dead.

On Tuesday, Guaido - who has been recognized by more than 50 countries as the crisis-wracked country's interim president - urged the armed forces to rise up against the embattled leader.

The CBI has booked two doctors for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs one crore from a medicine supplier with the assurance of getting him listed as an agent of a noted pharmaceutical manufacturer under central rate contract, officials said on Friday.

Vikas Gupta and Kajal Goldar, both medical officers of Employees' State Insurance Corporation, now posted at its hospitals in Tirunelveli and Kolhapur respectively, have been booked by the CBI for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, they said.

Kashmiri Man Who Left Home to Join Hizbul Mujahideen Held, Arms Recovered

A man who had gone missing from Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, to allegedly join the the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, was arrested on Friday from Kupwara district, police said.

"On a credible input, police, along with security forces, intercepted Shafat Yousuf Malik at a check-point near Chowgal in Handwara of north Kashmir's Kupwara district and took him into custody," a police spokesman said.

Some incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from Malik, he said.

India Extends Retaliatory Tariff Deadline on US Products Till 16 May

The government has again extended its deadline to impose retaliatory import duties on 29 US products, including almond, walnut and pulses, till 16 May.

A notification from the finance ministry has said that implementation of increased customs duty on specified imports originating in the US has been postponed from 2 May to 16 May this year.

These deadlines were extended several times since June 2018, when India decided to impose these duties in retaliation to a move by the US to impose high customs duties on certain steel and aluminium products.

Dollar Swap Auction Boosts Forex Kitty by USD 4.7 Billion

India’s foreign exchange reserves soared by USD 4.368 billion to USD 418.515 billion in the week to April 26, helped by the second dollar-rupee swap auction, RBI data showed on Friday.

In the swap auction conducted on 23 April, the Reserve Bank had received bids worth USD 18.65 billion against USD 5 billion on offer. It accepted just five bids worth USD 5 billion.
