Car Bomb Kills 13 in Rebel-Held Northern Syrian Town Beirut

A car bomb killed at least 13 people on Sunday, 2 June near a mosque in a northern town held by Turkey-backed fighters, and wounded dozens of people, Syrian opposition activists said.

The blast in the town of Azaz occurred as scores of people were leaving the mosque of Maytam, wounding dozens including children, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory said the blast killed at least 14 people. It said the dead included four children.

Fire Burns Down 150 Jhuggis in Maratha Mohalla Near Jammu Railway Station

A Fire broke out in Maratha Mohalla near the Jammu railway station last night. Around 150 jhuggis (huts), including 41 of those belonging to Rohingyas, were gutted in fire.

Residents said, "It was a massive fire, wind fuelled it. Fire brigade came after an hour. No one from administration has come."

13 Killed in Van-Truck Collision in Pakistan

At least 13 people, including a woman and four children, were killed when their van collided with a truck in Pakistan's Balochistan province, police said on Monday, 3 June.

The accident took place on Sunday night when the van was heading to Zohb from Quetta when it collided with a truck in Ali Khel area in the province, Ary News reported.

At least 13 people were killed and seven others were injured, police said, adding that five members of a family are also included in the deceased in the dreadful accident.

Vistara to Launch International Flights in Second Half of 2019

Full service carrier Vistara is planning to launch international services in the second half of this year.

A joint venture between Tatas and Singapore Airlines, Vistara might also look at starting medium and long-haul flights, depending on approvals, amid the grounding of Jet Airways.

"We see India as a growing market. We are here for the long term," Vistara CEO Leslie Thng said on the sidelines of the annual general meeting of airlines' grouping IATA on Sunday, 2 June.

Without providing specific details, he said the airline plans to start international operations in the second half of 2019.

Emirates Eyes More Seats on Dubai-India Route

Gulf carrier Emirates is looking for more seats to offer on the Dubai-India route, which has not seen an increase in bilateral rights for the last five years, and expects discussions to restart between the two governments, a top official told PTI.

Emirates, the flagship carrier of Dubai, flies to nine destinations in India and has also entered into a preliminary pact for a code share with low-cost carrier SpiceJet.

"The bilateral (air traffic) rights between India and Dubai is the biggest single problem. Now, the elections are over and the Modi government is back in power. I am hoping that the talks would (between India and Dubai) reopen," Emirates Airline President Tim Clark said in Seoul.

Four Killed in Accident in Bikaner

Four persons were killed and two others injured when their car rammed into a tree in the district on Monday morning, police said.

The incident occurred near Jasrasar village when the victims, hailing from Haryana, were on their way to Mukam in Bikaner.

The driver lost control over the vehicle when a cow suddenly came in front of the car and it rammed into the tree. They were rushed to PMB government hospital where three were declared dead on arrival and one succumbed to injuries during treatment, the police added.

Indian Girl Critical After Falling from Building In UAE

A six-year-old Indian girl is battling for her life after she fell from the third floor of a building in Sharjah, according to media report.

The incident took place on Saturday, when the girl, identified as Safa SA, was playing in her house and ventured into the balcony from where she fell, the Khaleej Times reported.

Her parents, who were inside the house, were unaware of her movements, the report said.

The doctors have said that the girl has suffered multiple injuries and is put on artificial respiration, the report said.

The incident occurred at Jogiya Khera village in Phugana area on Sunday evening when food was being prepared and a cylinder caught fire, said Circle Officer Hariram Yadav.

The body of the deceased, Fihan, has been sent for post-mortem.

Mahindra & Mahindra Benefit Trust Sells M&M Shares Worth Rs 1,244 Crore to Canada's CDPQ

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Monday, 3 June, said that M&M Benefit Trust has sold 1.92 crore shares in the company for Rs 1,244 crore to Canada's institutional investor CDPQ on the BSE.

"The M&M Benefit Trust was created in July 2008 for the exclusive benefit of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. The shares held by the trust were the outcome of various mergers and schemes of amalgamation. The trust held 10.36 crore shares of Mahindra & Mahindra," M&M said in a regulatory filing.

The company said, according to the trust deed, the proceeds of the sale would be transferred to M&M, and be used by the company for its various operational requirements.

'Bank Fraud Touched Unprecedented Rs 71,500 Crore in 2018-19'

Over 6,800 cases of bank fraud involving an unprecedented Rs 71,500 crore have been reported in 2018-19, the Reserve Bank of India has said.

A total of 5,916 such cases were reported by banks in 2017-18 involving Rs 41,167.03 crore, it said.

As many as 6,801 cases of fraud were reported by scheduled commercial banks and select financial institutions involving an amount of Rs 71,542.93 crore in the last fiscal (increase of over 73 percent in the fraud amount), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in reply to an RTI query filed by this PTI journalist.
