Rural Fire Service volunteers who have spent at least 10 days battling blazes in worst-hit New South Wales (NSW) state are immediately eligible for the scheme, which offers payments of up to Aus $300 ($209) per day for a maximum of Aus $6,000 per person.
"While I know RFS volunteers don't seek payment for their service, I don't want to see volunteers or their families unable to pay bills, or struggle financially as a result of the selfless contribution they are making," Morrison said.

Multiple people were stabbed at a Jewish place of worship late Saturday night, a public affairs group said.
“At 9:50 this eve, a call came in about a mass stabbing... It's the house of a Hasidic Rabbi. 5 patients with stab wounds, all Hasidic, were transported to local hospitals,” the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council tweeted.

A 13-year-old girl was killed in a shooting at a North Carolina mall parking lot and two other juveniles were hurt, police said.
Concord police responded to a call about a fight outside a Dave and Buster's at Concord Mills mall Saturday night, police said in a statement.
Officers discovered there had been a shooting and that two boys had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police had said in tweets that the 13-year-old girl died at the scene.

Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for some abdominal health issues, sources said on Sunday.
The 80-year-old leader, who is also former Defence minister, came to a private hospital here three days back on the advice of doctors, they said.
“He has been admitted to a private hospital here for abdominal complaints,” a close aide of the leader said.
Yadav was advised to shift to Mumbai and he came here three days back, he said.
"He is likely to be discharged today, but it depends on the doctors' examination and their satisfaction with his response to medication," he added.

The expansion of the Maharashtra council of ministers will take place on Monday, 30 December, PTI reported. As many as 36 ministers could take oath on that day, sources told the news agency.
Currently, the Uddhav Thackeray-led cabinet has six ministers besides the chief minister himself.
The list has been finalized and will be out today, Maharashtra Minister and Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat told ANI. There will be 12 Ministers from Congress out of which 10 are of cabinet rank, he added.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said on Sunday that the self-governing island's democracy remains under direct threat from rival China, underscoring her calls for closer ties with the US and other allies.
Tsai was speaking at a televised debate against Han Kuo-yu of the main opposition Nationalist Party and veteran politician James Soong of the People's First Party. Elections for president and the legislature are set for 11 January. Most polls show Tsai leading in her quest for a second four-year term.
Tsai said she would preserve Taiwan's freedoms and way of life, but would make no changes to the constitution or the island's official name, the Republic of China, which moved its seat of government to Taipei, the island's capital, following the Communist Party's seizure of power on mainland China in 1949.

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Sunday hiked its mandatory minimum recharge for pre-paid customers to Rs 45 from Rs 23.
"...it will be mandatory to recharge with a voucher of Rs 45 or above, every 28 days to avail services," the company said in a public notice.
The new minimum recharge plan will come into effect from Sunday. The announcement pertained to prepaid subscribers of Bharti Airtel and Bharti Hexacom in all service areas, it added.
