One Dead, Three Injured in US Synagogue Shooting

A gunman opened fire at a synagogue in California, killing one person and injuring three others including the rabbi as worshippers marked the final day of Passover, officials said on Saturday, 27 April.

The shooting in the town of Poway came exactly six months after a white supremacist shot dead 11 people at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue – the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the history of the United States.

“During the shooting, four individuals were wounded and transported to Palimar hospital. One succumbed to their wounds. The other three are in stable condition,” San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore told a press conference. He added the injured were a female juvenile and two adult men, while an older woman died from her injuries.

4 Dead After Construction Crane Collapses in Seattle

Four people were killed and three wounded when a construction crane collapsed Saturday in downtown Seattle, pinning five cars underneath.

The four were dead by the time firefighters got to the scene, the Seattle Fire Department said.

Three people were transported to the hospital, the department said.

The crane collapsed near the intersection of Mercer Street and Fairview Avenue near Interstate 5 shortly after 3 pm.

Young Woman Tourist Found Murdered in Goa Hotel Room

A 25-year-old woman tourist from Himachal Pradesh was found murdered in a room at a starred hotel in North Goa on Saturday, police sources said.

The victim was identified as Alka Saini, from Himachal Pradesh who had checked into the hotel in the beach village of Arpora on 20 April, along with her boyfriend, who could not be traced now, a police source said.

40 Shanties Gutted in Fire in Delhi

At least 40 shanties were gutted after a major fire broke out in east Delhi's Lalita park area on Saturday, officials said.

They said 15 LPG cylinders also exploded in the area after the fire broke out.

The Fire Department received information about the incident at around 11.10 am and 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

UAE Gives Birth Certificate to Girl Born to Inter-Faith Couple

In probably the first, the UAE government has given birth certificate to a nine-month old girl who was born to an Indian Hindu father and a Muslim mother, setting aside the country's marriage rules for expatriates during the Year of Tolerance, according to a media report.

As per the marriage rules for expatriates in UAE, a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman but a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man.

Sharjah-based expat Kiran Babu and Sanam Saboo Siddique, who got married in Kerala in 2016, faced and unusual situation when their daughter was born in July 2018, the Khaleej Times reported.
