15 Injured as Students Clash in Tamil Nadu

Fifteen students of a private engineering college near here were injured in a clash between two groups of students on Saturday, police said.

There was enmity between the students of the third year and fourth year for several months and it turned violent after a wordy duel, the police said.

The groups attacked each other with bricks and bottles and wooden reapers, they said.

The injured students have been hospitalised, while 15 others detained for interrogation,they added.

A posse of police has been posted near the college to prevent any further untoward incidents.

14 Killed in Jihadist Attack in Burkina Faso

Armed men described as jihadists raided a village in Burkina Faso's restive north, killing 14 people, plundering and burning shops and motorbikes, local and security sources said Saturday.

The raid took place on the night of Thursday to Friday with “around 20 individuals attacking the village of Diblou and killing 14 people,” a security source said.

“The terrorists burnt shops and motorcycles. Almost the entire market was looted,” a local resident said.

“Almost all the inhabitants fled to neighbouring areas.” The poor Sahel state has been battling a rising wave of jihadist attacks over the last four years which began in the north but have since spread to the east, near the border with Togo and Benin.

Seven Naxals, Including 3 Women Gunned Down in Bastar

Seven naxals, including three women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Saturday.

The gunbattle took place around 4 pm in the forest near Tiriya village under Nagarnar police station area bordering Odisha, Deputy Inspector General of police (anti- naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

A joint squad of District Reserve Guard and Special Task Force (STF) of Chhattisgarh police was carrying out an anti-naxal operation in the forests along the inter-state border.

When the team was advancing through the forest of Tiriya, around 400 km from the capital Raipur, the skirmish broke out.

Terrorists Attempt to Infiltrate PoK, 1 Soldier Killed

A group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) at 0220 hours today in Machhal Sector.

The bid was foiled by our alert troops. One soldier was martyred in the operation.

Priest at Sikh Temple in California 'Assaulted'

The priest of a gurdwara in California was allegedly assaulted on Thursday night in an apparent hate crime, media reports said on Friday.

The priest, Amarjit Singh, told local Fresno Bee newspaper that an intruder, who broke open the window to enter his home inside the gurdwara campus, punched him, asked him to go back to his country and yelled obscenities at him.

Singh is a priest at the Sikh Temple Modesto Ceres, around 100 miles (160 kilometres) east of San Francisco.

Himalayan Conclave to Be Held in Mussoorie on Sunday

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chief ministers of nine Himalayan states and a host of other dignitaries like Niti Ayog vice chairman Rajeev Kumar are likely to attend a one-day Himalayan conclave to be held in Mussoorie on Sunday.

The conclave will pass a Mussoorie resolution and deliberate on issues like the conservation of Himalayan ecology, bio-diversity and cultural heritage.

GST Rate to be Reduced on Electrical Vehicles, Chargers

A Jadavpur University professor was allegedly assaulted by a former student near the varsity main gate here, officials said on Saturday, 27 July.

Professor Abdul Kafi of the Bengali department was having tea near the university main gate on Friday afternoon when a former student, identified as Rajesh Santra, hit him repeatedly, the officials said.

As Kafi fell to the ground, he was rescued by students and by-standers. Santra was detained by varsity employees and taken to the main administrative building Aurobindo Bhavan.

US Approves Foreign Military Sales to Support India's C-17 Transport Planes

As part of its efforts to enhance India's defence capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region, the Trump Administration notified the Congress on Friday of its decision to approve foreign military sales worth $670 million to support India's C-17 military transport aircraft.

The decision in this regard comes after a recent Indian request to buy equipment for C-17 follow-on support, to include spares and repair parts, support equipment, and personnel training and training equipment among others.
