Pakistan Shells Forward Posts in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir

Pakistani troops on Sunday opened fire at forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting retaliation by the Indian Army, a defence spokesman said. The Pakistani troops lobbed mortars and opened fire from small arms from across the border in Naushera sector at 1:15 pm, according to the spokesman. The exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing when last reports came in.

Save Our Sisters Writes Letter to Kerala CM

In a letter to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Save Our Sisters (SOS) has written that the rape survivor and the other five nuns who supported her in the case against Bishop Franco Mulakkal are facing imminent threat of being separated and sent away from Kerala by the Missionaries of Jesus, reports news agency ANI.

The letter also asks government to initiate immediate action to forestall the move to remove them, from their present convent, until trial is completed.

Jammu - Srinagar Highway to Open

The strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway will open for traffic on Sunday after it remained closed for six consecutive days, news agency IANS reports quoting officials.

A landslide hit the highway in Anokhi Fall area early Sunday morning, But the officials said that clearance operation was already underway. The highway had remained closed for six consecutive days stranding over 2,000 vehicles.

Bombs Target Cathedral in South Philippines; 19 Dead

News agency AP quoted Philippine national police chief as saying that two bombs have exploded outside a Roman Catholic cathedral on a southern island where Muslim militants are active, leaving 19 people dead and 48 wounded.

Death Toll Rises in Brazil Dam Collapse

The death toll from the collapse of a dam holding back mine waste in southeastern Brazil rose to 40 on Saturday as searchers flying in helicopters and rescuers labouring in deep mud uncovered more bodies, news agency AP reported.

An estimated 300 people were still missing and authorities expected the death toll to increase during a search made more challenging by intermittent rains.
