Pak National Arrested in Jammu

A 20-year-old Pakistani national was arrested on Saturday after he intruded into this side from the International Border (IB) in Jammu, officials said.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Mukesh Singh confirmed the arrest of Basharat Ali, a resident of Sialkot in Pakistan. Ali had managed to sneak into this side from Pakistan and reached Chandu Check village of the R S Pura sector, where he was caught by some villagers and handed over to police, the officials said.

They said Ali was unarmed and immediately whisked away by police. "He is being questioned," the IGP said when asked about the motive for his sneaking into the country.

Virus Attack Kills Four Elephants at Nandankanan Zoo

Four elephants have died at the Nandanakanan Zoo here after being infected by a virus, prompting the Odisha government to seek assistance from experts of Assam and Kerala.

All the four calves died of Endotheliotrophic Herpes Virus within a span of one month.

"The state government has contacted experts in Assam and Kerala where similar virus has killed several elephants in the past," Forest and Environment Minister of Odisha, B Karukha, said on Saturday.

Car-Borne Men Fire at Police in Delhi

Four unidentified assailants, in a four-wheeler, fired at police team near Akshardham temple earlier this morning. The police team had asked them to stop their vehicle when they resorted to firing and later managed to escape. No injuries have been reported so far.

3 Dead, 1 Missing After Vehicle Falls in Uttarakhand River

Three people died after the vehicle they were in, fell off Nijmula-Birahi road into a river, in Chamoli in Uttarakhand last night. One person is still missing. Search and rescue operation by the local administration and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) is underway.

70 IAS Officers Transferred in Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government has transferred 70 IAS officers, including 10 district collectors, according to an official order.

The officer on special duty (OSD) to former chief minister Vasundhara Raje was among those transferred on Saturday night.

Additional Chief Secretary, administrative reforms, Ravishankar Srivastava has been made chairman of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC).

Bus Crash Kills 22 in Northwest Pakistan, After Brakes Fail

A bus rammed into a mountain on Sunday after the driver lost control while taking a turn on a hilly road in Pakistan's northwest, killing at least 26 people, including children, and injuring 13 others, police said.

The accident happened in the Babusar Top area, bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

The bus was going towards Rawalpindi from Skardu city and there were 40 passengers, including 16 Pakistan Army personnel, the Express Tribune reported.

Depression off Gujarat Coast Likely to Turn into Cyclonic Storm

A depression formed over east-central and north-east Arabian Sea was now around 170 kilometres west-southwest off Veraval in Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

It is likely to intensify into a deep depression and subsequently convert into a cyclonic storm in 24 hours and move west-northwest towards Oman coast over the next 72 hours, the IMD added.

The cyclonic storm will cause light to moderate rains in several places in the Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat, and heavy rainfall in isolated places in the coastal districts during the next 24 hours, the IMD informed.

16 Animals Die as Pak Violates Ceasefire

At least 16 animals were killed in heavy firing and shelling by Pakistan Army on forward posts and villages in different sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Rajouri districts, officials said on Saturday.

The intense shelling from across the border also prompted the authorities to suspend class work in nearly half a dozen government-run schools falling within the firing range in Poonch district on Saturday, they said.

A defence spokesman said Pakistan initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation by targeting Nowshera sector in Rajouri and Balakote area of Mendhar, Shahpur and Kerni sectors in Poonch district, drawing befitting response from the Indian army.

Telangana Stares at Rs 1.43 Lakh Cr public debt as on FY18-CAG

Telangana's total debt stood at nearly Rs 1.43 lakh crore by the end of 2017-18, an 18 per cent increase over the preceding year, the CAG said in its report tabled on Sunday in the state assembly.

The Comptroller and Auditor General also expressed concern that the interest payments by the government, relative to revenues, were higher at 12.19 per cent against the target of 8.31 per cent fixed by the 14th Finance Commission.

K'taka CM Yediyurappa Meets Shah, Seeks Rs 2,000 Cr for Flood Relief

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday, 22 September met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought Rs 2,000 crore as urgent relief for the flood-affected state.

Speaking to reporters, he said the Centre has assured that a decision on providing assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) will be taken after a central team, which is assessing the extent of damage in the state, submits its report in the next two-three days.

5 Killed as Bus Collides With Truck in Rajasthan's Ajmer

Five persons were killed and ten others injured when a bus in which they were travelling collided with a truck in Ajmer district of Rajasthan on Sunday, police said.

The incident happened in Mangliawas area, leaving five passengers, including two children, dead.

Those injured have been admitted to a hospital in Beawar town, police said.

Seven Killed in Baghdad Suburb Despite Anti-IS Sweep: Security Sources

Seven people have been killed in three attacks in the northern outskirts of the Iraqi capital, security sources said Sunday, despite the army recently declaring the area swept of jihadists.

The overnight attacks Saturday into Sunday targeted the homes of tribal fighters belonging to the powerful Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary force, as well as army barracks, in the Sunni suburb of Tarmiya, the sources said.
