US to Sanction India, Other Nations for Importing Iranian Oil

The Trump administration is poised to tell five nations, including allies Japan, South Korea and Turkey, that they will no longer be exempt from US sanctions if they continue to import oil from Iran, officials said Sunday.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to announce on Monday that the administration will not renew sanctions waivers for the five countries when they expire on 2 May, three US officials said. The others are China and India.

Delhi Court Extends Judicial Custody of Defence Agent in AgustaWestland Case

A Delhi court Monday extended till 3 May the judicial custody of Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in the AgustaWestland VVIP choppers scam case.

Special Judge Arvind Kumar extended the custody of Gupta, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The court had dismissed his bail plea previously.

Fire at Crawford Centre in Mumbai Extinguished; None Hurt

No casualties have been reported in the fire which broke out at a shopping centre in the busy Crawford Market area of South Mumbai on Monday, a fire brigade official said.

The blaze erupted around 10.50 am at the shopping centre located behind a mosque on Abdul Rahman Street and spread rapidly in the complex, the official said.

Several electronic goods, plastic, stationery items and electric installations were gutted in the fire. Four fire engines, as many water tankers, and a quick response vehicle were rushed to the spot, the official said.

The fire brigade personnel managed to extinguish the flames after hectic efforts for about an hour. The exact cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, the official said, adding that a probe was on into the incident.

Turkey Police Arrest Ruling Party Member, Five Others After Attack on Opposition Chief

Turkish police on Monday arrested six people, including a member of the ruling AKP party, after an attack on opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, local media and party officials said.

Kilicdaroglu, 70, of the Republican People's Party (CHP) was attacked on Sunday by a mob as he attended the funeral in the Cubuk district of Ankara for a soldier killed fighting Kurdish militants in the southeast.

The attack came days after the opposition CHP won Ankara and Istanbul from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's AKP in March 31 local elections in a stinging blow to the ruling party.

Officials Say 6 People Died in Texas Small Plane Crash

All six people aboard a small plane died on Monday when it crashed while preparing to land in central Texas, authorities said.

The twin-engine aircraft went down just before 9 am as it was approaching an airport in Kerrville, about 110 kilometres northwest of San Antonio, according to a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

The pilot and other five people aboard the plane were all killed, and state law enforcement officials are securing the crash site for FAA and National Transportation Safety Board investigators, said Sgt. Orlando Moreno, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

10 Dead, 30 Children Hurt as Nigeria Policeman Rams Car into Crowd

Ten people were killed and more than 30 injured when a policeman rammed his car into a group of children during an Easter procession in northeast Nigeria, before being killed himself by the angry crowd, witnesses and police sources said.

The deadly incident happened late Sunday when the off-duty policeman ploughed his car into a procession celebrating Easter in Gombe, state police spokeswoman Mary Mallum said.

"Ten people were killed, including the policeman and a paramilitary member who was with him," Mallum said.
