IOC 'Suspends Discussions' With India for Hosting Global Events

The International Olympic Committee has decided to suspend all discussions with India regarding hosting of global sporting events after Pakistani shooters were not issued visas for the World Cup in New Delhi.

The Olympic committee also revoked the Olympic qualification status for the men's 25 m rapid fire event from the New Delhi World Cup due to denial of visas to the Pakistani shooters in the wake of last week's Pulwama terrorist attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

NHRC Issues Notices to Centre, Bengal, UP, U'Khand Over 'Ill-Treatment' of Kashmiris

The NHRC Thursday issued notices to the Union ministries of Home and Human Resource Development, and the state governments of West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, seeking reports over "ill-treatment of Kashmiris" in wake of the Pulwama terror attack.

The National Human Rights Commission or NHRC has also issued a notice to the Delhi Police commissioner and has asked the Union ministries to submit the report on the matter within two weeks. It has given chief secretaries of the states four weeks time to send their reports.

NIA Conducts Searches at Locations of Close Associates of PLFI

NIA conducted searches at 10 locations in Jharkhand and West Bengal on Thursday in connection with People’s Liberation Front of India Terror funding case.

The search was conducted at the locations of close associates and offices of companies associated with PLFI Chief Dinesh Gope in Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti and Kolkata.

During searches, NIA has seized incriminating documents pertaining to payments/investment by PLFI chief/cadres in various firms and immovable properties, Fake PAN Cards and fake identity cards, bank accounts details and fixed deposits and cash approximately Rs 3.41 Lacs.

Bangladeshi Cargo Ship Capsizes in Hooghly River, All Crew Members Rescued

A Bangladeshi cargo ship capsized in the Hooghly river in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district Thursday but all eight crew members, including an Indian, were rescued by local fishermen, police said.

The Ship 'MV Allal Shah' was carrying fly ash and was on its way to Bangladesh from Khidderpore dock in Kolkata.

Eight crew members of the ship - 7 Bangladeshis and one Indian - were rescued by the local fishermen and handed over to the police, they added.

Sensex, Nifty End Higher For Second Day

Indian equity benchmarks extended gains for the second day and clocked their best two-day rally in nearly three weeks. The S&P BSE Sensex Index closed 0.4 percent higher at 35,898.35 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index ended at 10,789.85, up 0.51 percent.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 1,183 stocks advanced and 540 shares declined on National Stock Exchange.

MHA Approves Air Travel Entitlement For CAPF Jawans

Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the entitlement of air travel on Delhi-Srinagar, Srinagar-Delhi, Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar-Jammu sectors to all the personnel of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces.

The decision will immediately benefit approximately 780,000 personnel of CAPFs in the ranks of Constable, Head Constable & ASI who were otherwise not eligible earlier. This includes journey on duty and journey on leave, i.e; while going on leave from J&K to home and return.

SC To Consider Listing Review Petition on Rafale Judgement

The Supreme Court Thursday said that it would consider listing of a plea seeking review of its verdict in the Rafale case.

The apex court on December 14 last year dismissed a clutch of PILs, including the one filed by former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and lawyer Prashant Bhushan, saying there was "no occasion to doubt" the decision-making process of the Centre in the procurement of 36 Rafale jets from France.

Sensex, Nifty Open in Green, Bank Stocks Rise

Benchmark indices started on a positive note Thursday tracking gains on banking counters, after the government announced infusion Rs 48,239 crore in 12 public sector banks, buying by foreign and domestic institutional investors, and positive global cues.

Sensex climbed more than 80 points to open at 35,837 while the broader 50-share Nifty too made gains in early trading to open to the tune of 10,750. The Nifty PSU Bank sub-index was up almost a percent.

'This Is Not Like Any Other Fire': 45 Perish in Dhaka Blaze

At least 45 people were killed after a devastating fire broke out in apartment buildings also used as chemical warehouses in an old part of the Bangladeshi capital, a fire official said Thursday.

"So far we have recovered 45 bodies. The number of bodies may increase. The search is still going on," Bangladesh's fire service chief Ali Ahmed told AFP.

He said the blaze at Chawkbazar in the old part of Dhaka might have originated from a gas cylinder before quickly spreading through the building where highly flammable chemicals were stored.

The flames raced through four adjoining buildings, which were also used as chemical warehouses, including for storing plastic granules and body sprays.
